According to my bill that I have just checked and has a bar chart on the back electricity has gone from 796 to 367 and gas has gone from 2816 to 1752. Last years are based on estimates but the trend is down anyway.Brilliant!
I have just realised that my DD on gas is the lowest it's been since SEPTEMBER 2003
My electricity DD is the lowest since JULY 20050 -

Now that's a result considering all the price rises - well done. :T:T:T
No wonder BG is only reducing their standard gas by 10%.:rotfl:0 -

and that's with the higher prices now! I'm £130.66 in credit too, so the next bill should also be good. I don't think I've ever been in credit in January before, so  to all of you on this thread for inspiring me to use less.
Doubly good result - brilliant work, well done!!:j:j:j0 -

Good work Little Mama, every reason to be chuffed I think!!:T:T0 -
I've heard of (and used a tiny bit of) HTML
I'm a Cobol, Adabas Natural, CSP, VAGen, DB2, and VSAM user/programmer.
i-measure definitely sounds more DS's kettle of fish, but with it being Internet based I expected that to be the case :rolleyes2
Double :eek: I've heard of Cobol, Adabas and, DB2 no idea about the rest though.0 -
Whilst doing a sort out yesterday I came across my g&e bills covering the period 02/01/2004 to 30/05/2005 !!!
My son would have thought I'd "lost it" if he'd seen me entering them to my s/sheet this afternoon :rotfl:
Unfortunately it looks like I'm totally without records from when we got the house (late May 2002) until the start of these -- and also have a gap from the end of these until 31/8/2007
But I've just compared the figures from Dec '04 to Jan '05 against Dec '08 to Jan '09, and I'm not happy !!!!
I have a 56 day bill from 7/11/04 thru 1/1/05, where we used 1175kWh of electricity and 2175kWh of gas (average of 21kWh/day elect, and 38.8kWh/day gas).
My last 2 bills (4 weeks each, so a total of 56 days) cover the period 18/11/08 thru 12/1/09 - and we used 605kWh of electricity (which is great news), but 2388kWh of gas(average of 10.8kWh/day elect, and 42.6kWh/day gas)
I can understand the electricity reductions (in 2004/05 there were 4 of us living here, and the 08/09 never had more than 3 of us -- with only 2 for about 12 days of the 56 -- but the fact it's only a shade over half has well impressed me)..... but the increase in gas is
There are only two things I can think of......
In 2004/05 I was at work all day, and DH worked nights but didn't have a clue how to over-ride the central heating timerI'm now home all day, and regularly kick it back on (though it's set to 17 degrees instead of the 19-20 degrees it used to run at).
In 2004/05 I didn't do a lot of home cooking -- and when I did much of it was in the oven or grill (both electric). But now I do a lot of 'pan cook' meals -- and the hob is gas.
I can't remember what the Winter of 2004/05 was like, but I guess it's also possible it's been colder sooner this year so that the heating has been on more because of that too(The next bill in 2005 which covers 2/1/05 thru 4/3/05 has an average for gas of 42.3kWh, which is almost exactly what I'm using now)
ETA: It's also dawned on me in the last half hour that I used to have my hot water on for around 2.5hrs a day -- now it's just 10 mins. Extremely frightened by how much more gas I'm using compared to 4 years ago now !!!Cheryl0 -
Hi Cheryl :hello:
Maybe that was a particularly mild winter? Gas use is abit about being lucky with the weather isn't it?
Well done on the electricity0 -
Hi Cheryl - How do you manage with only 10 mins of hot water a day? Do you have a combi boiler?
My boiler is pretty ancient with a hot water cylinder, and even being really frugal, I have to run it for about 40 mins a day to have a shower.0 -
Hi Cheryl, I think you're being way too hard on yourself here. Your gas use is up by only 10% and doesn't that cover some of the time your DH was ill as well? Personally I think it's a miracle (or rather very good planning) that it was only increased by that amount. And well done on the electric decrease!0

Decola : Hot water -- 10 mins seems to be enough for pot washing adnd strip washing. I bang it on for an extra 10 mins if one of us if having a shower (or 20 for a bath which is once in a blue moon).
Washing machine is cold fill only, so it's only pots and people that need hot from the tank. (And no, we're not a combi boiler)
belfastgirl123 : hubby passed away in the early hours of 18th, so the 8 weeks I'm looking at now doesn't include any heating for him at all. (He'd been in hospital for a couple of days prior to that too, so the heating had been adjusted on 16th/17th).Cheryl0
