Everyone ready for the huge blip we're going to put on the i-measure chart this week? Should be interesting, if not downright amusing, seeing how well the British weather helps keep the carbon count down. Can't we just all plant a couple of trees and then sleep easy in warm beds? :D

  • I'm not looking forward to it. I've done as much as I can with curtains etc at the moment. It does help but this flat really needs double glazing and cavity wall insulation. So an informal call to energy watch etc is in order I think.

Also just seen another post somewhere on a table top cooker being used in the living room - sounds good depending on cost but I wonder about the humidity. Worth investigating though.

Heating has just gone on again as the temperature has dropped to 14C indoors. A seasonal cold blip to separate the vertical rain from the horizontal rain I think.
Readings, yes. I think my gas reading are going to look a bit like the 'hockey stick' graph.
  • Just checked my results on imeasure and my gas readings are sitting on 22/113 a certain A+. :)

er thats going to be shot this week though.

Managed not to put the heating on due to the warm weather yesterday, Plus lovely cosy new 13.5tog duvet best night sleep I've had in weeks. The only worry is that althought the boiler came on this morning and the settings haven't changed, there was hardly any hot water, hope its not on the blink again it was only fixed at the end of may and I think they replaced most of it.

Got some warmer clothes at the weekend, a scarf hoody and over knee socks to wear under trousers on the way to work, and was a lot warmer this morning. Work has put the heating on and I've come in to a warm office for the 1st time in a month.

Forgot to read the meters this morning so will have to do imeasure tonight.

I'm down to an E too whatawit :(

I also looked at where they compare us with other similar households - average is in brackets:

Your results are being compared with the averages of 28 households.
    Carbon emissions Kg CO2
Last week (per household) 111 (57)

    Gas use as kWh
Last week (per household) 366 (121)

    Electricity use as kWh
Last week (Per Household) 68 (62)

We aren't too bad on the electric front but we are really bad on the gas front! I did kind of know this anyway because our usage averaged at about £100 a month before the recent price rises which did seem like a lot. DH hasn't been working in the house lately so these costs are basically for showers in the morning and max a couple of hours heating a day which doesn't seem that excessive to me - or at least it's just taking it from freezing to livable. So all I'd guess is that our boiler must be really inefficient which I guess isn't really a surprise either. The Imeasure readings are useful to help compare like with like.

I am preparing myself for a long and expensive winter :( and considering how much installing a new boiler would cost in comparison.

sad045.gif My 20 units I was expecting to use when I switched on 2 storage heaters was waaaaaaaaaaaay out! The overnight count exploded to [strike]41![/strike] Sorry, that should have read 31! This is so unfair when comparing the entire UK as it has been so cold here. Mum's already been on the phone saying there's sleat further up and the first frost has arrived. Sun's shining right now but I don't have a thermostat (or any south facing windows that can let some sunshine and warmth into the house). I need a new house asap. :(

Mwaaaaaaaaah.... I don't live anywhere near a Lidl's either. I guess this is just going to be one of 'those' days. Best be glad it's dry enough to hang out the washing :D

Sorry to hear you are not having a good day....I'm still line drying too:D
  • Sitting on an E at the moment 28 / 45 in the carbon club.

Gas has gone up hugely 89 kWh compared to around 22 to 33 despite keeping the kitchen and bathroom doors closed, heating only the living room and wearing layers of clothes. Need to work on the living room windows and curtains next.

    Electricity is still 25 kWh.

C02 for the month 23 / 21. So hopefully it will come back to a D, fingers crossed.

Temperature indoors this morning was 13C so heating has been on again.

    My i-measure.org weekly results
    - Your Results in Detail

You have been taking readings for 11 weeks
Since you started measuring your total household -
Energy use is 983 kWh (Gas: 0kWh | Electricity: 983kWh)
    Carbon emissions are 514 Kg CO2 (Gas: 0 Kg CO2 | Electricity: 514 Kg CO2)
    Money Spent

How has my energy spend been calculated?
    Last week you spent:
    • £0.00 on gas
    • £26.76 on electricity
Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (11 weeks ago):
    • £0.00 on gas
    • £117.96 on electricity
    Carbon Emitted & Energy Used

The results in the tables for 'last month' and 'last quarter' are in terms of the weekly average. The tables give you information about your household (black numbers) in comparison to the average imeasure households you choose to be compared (red numbers).
You chose to compare your household with (All users/All housetypes) - to change your comparison go into your user detail settings.
Your results are being compared with the averages of 148 households.

I am sitting at 21/45 on the MoneySaving carbon club chart and have plummeted to an E on the carbon grade so I can only assume one thing - if we are dropping to E ratings and we ARE the ones who are trying our hardest to keep useage low, what's the rest of the UK doing?
There's a really scarey thought!

Apart from anything else, I have just paid my quarterly electricity bill and, despite a 67.5% price increase over the past 12 months, my bill was over £70 cheaper this year JUST because of this challenge on here - thanks for making daily meter reading feel normal and, dare I say, fun! :rotfl:
