    44kwh elec instead of 41

    the badge hasnt updated yet so still indicates B. does everyones have to be in for it to change

    Our gas meter is a total PITA to read....this is not going to be easy! You have to move the sofa, find a torch, get down on your hands and knees and try and squeeze your head into a small cupboard :rolleyes:

    Ahem can you reach it with the camera phone :p

    At least yours is in the same part of the house as you.
    I have to go outside and down the side of the house.
    In the door that leads to upstairs.....avoid the missing floorboards, clamber over various piles of carp and squeeze myself under the stairs...then shuffle backwards to escape. :p

  • Thought I'd wait a bit longer until I posted properly because the results change so much. Its last weeks gas that hit me this week.

    10 weeks

    Since you started measuring your total household -
    Energy use is 544 kWh (Gas: 310kWh | Electricity: 234kWh)
    Carbon emissions are 186 Kg CO2 (Gas: 64 Kg CO2 | Electricity: 122 Kg CO2)

    Last week you spent:

    * £3.12 on gas
    * £3.12 on electricity

    Total spent since starting imeasure (10 weeks ago):

    * £10.86 on gas
    * £28.08 on electricity

    Still an 'E' and 22/48 better effort this week I think. I've put extra curtains in the living room as I can't afford proper velvet ones or backing so make do and mend at the moment.

    I've been shocked by this week's readings, as I haven't had the heating except when I had guests, and both gas & elec (I guess its having to have the lights on that does it) have gone up significantly. I'm now averaging just over 11kwH/day for gas and 5kwH/day for Electricity.

    Hi Greenbee & all you other energy savers,

    Yep I had a shock too yestrday with my daily readings, Saturday was a lazy day but in and out of the house and we totalled 5.6 kwh for electric, Sunday, everyone in all day long, playstations, laptops, PC and TV on pretty much all day, totalled 8.87 kwh, yesterday, just little old me in for a few hours in between shifts, did 4 economy washes but all of it had to be tumble dried then PC on in the eveing for about 1 hours......13.32 kwh used :eek::mad::eek:

    This is where we need a wee praying smilie to ask for just a wee bit of dry, slight wind, wee dash of sun every day just so I can get my washing dry! I will now stockpile clothes until the end of the week when it's meant to improve....it's just those emergency school things that need to dry asap when they've thrown yoghurt over themselves and their entire uniform two days on the trot! Boys eh :o

    Anyway rant over.

    I think this is amazing! £28.08 in 10 weeks for electricity! That's like only £2.80 per week and yet you have been banded an 'E'? :eek: How can that be? Those kinds of figures are completely and utterly impossible in my household as it costs £1.45 + vat per week in standing charges plus another £1.20ish + vat just for the fridge and freezer. :rotfl: We'd need to exist on 15p worth of electricity per week to reach those kind of figures and, as it costs me more than that to bake a loaf, NOT A CHANCE! You should be extremely proud of how well you are doing. We've already reached the 40 units every 24 hours stage, which will cost over £20 per week from now until the next heater needs to get switched on to avoid frostbite.
    I reserve the right not to spend.

  • Thanks Nyk.

    Good point on the price - as there have been increases I am going to recalculate and see how it compares to imeasure.

    I suspect electricity will be about the same but gas will be a bit bumpier.

    I am going to feel it shortly though as I have three outside walls and a close that runs through for the fourth wall. Also the living room is unpapered, and the house is single glazed and high ceilinged. I think when the cold bites my gas will really go up though I will be in the bedroom before then and hopefully back in work. That is my key problem and motivation at the moment.

    Some recent mitigation is extra curtains. I have added a roller blind, car boot sale, and in the evening have started pulling down the blind, hanging the old curtains over the top of the roller blind and drawing the M&S lined curtain I got from shelter. So four layers to fix the bedroom window. Living room has Venetian blind, tall sashes, badly fitting curtains so that is my next task.

    Condensation is terrible though so it is a daily wipe with the freebie paper. Could do with that heat shrink plastic I think.

    The letter bands are calculated on a per-person basis. So if you live alone (as I do), you're at a severe disadvantage. Better than D is almost unattainable in an old house. A 4-person family could use 3 times as much electricity as I do, but still be a band higher. This is why I'm 48/49 and have not been very motivated to try and move further up. It is nice to know I could rank in the 20s in the carbon club while still an E. This makes me feel better about my potential.

    Still, 26kWh per week of electricity is impressive. I'm on 38. And I would have to cut my gas usage in half to do better than a D.

    Of course I could change the comparisons to "same number of occupants", but that seems like cheating.

    Edit: OK, so I change it to "same number of occupants" and "semi-detached house" to see if I'm still an E. I am. And I am only being compared to 3 other households. But what baffles me is that I move up to 9/49 on the carbon club! This makes absolutely no sense to me at all. How can my comparison to 3 other households who may or may not be members of the carbon club affect my ranking? What is the criterion? I'm still an E, so how can it possibly be meaningful? Surely there should be one de-facto ranking system so we all see the same numbers. Otherwise how can we compare them? I'd post a question on there, but I don't want to have to sign up to their message system just to have it answered by someone who can't spell and doesn't know how it works either.
