  • If I was heating with electricity though I would be really struggling though I would love to be cooking with gas.:) I hope government is prioritising all electric households as it would add about 50% to my bill for a similar amount of heating.

Bill old and new prices for Ebico and SP for 10 weeks (70 days) on imeasure/

    Gas.....317 kWh (28 units)
    Elec....234 kwh

SC = Standing charge (70 days)

    SC Gas..£07.75
    SC Elec.£11.07
    SC Ttl..£18.82

    Scottish Power Old Cost.......
    Ebico Old Cost
    Gas.....£08-85................
    Gas.....£09.05
    Elec....£27.61................Elec....£28.06
    SC......£18.82................SC......£00.00
    Ttl.....£55.28 + vat
    Ttl.....£58.04 inc vat........
    Ttl.....£37.11 inc vat

    Scottish Power New Cost.......
    Ebico New cost
    Gas.....£12.12................
    Gas.....£11.95
    Elec....£29.83................Elec....£35.19
    SC......£18.82................SC......£00.00
    Ttl.....£60.77 + vat
    Ttl.....£63.81 inc vat........Ttl.....£47.14 inc vat

It is definitely not as bad as I thought and a lot better than last year and what some folk are paying. Its that standing charge...adds around 33% to a low user. Better to switch to ebico than take early payment reduction from Scottish Power - still struggling with a small bill though so I am not taking advantage of early payment. I think they call it 'high exit barriers' in business speak. Even more difficult for people on all electric and high costs.

Ebico will get slightly more expensive with increasing gas use but the easy payment method makes it far more attractive.

I am paying £40 per month on broad band and landline so that is priority at the moment.

    Well Done:T:T:T:T

PS it's scary how many KWH the CH eats up, isn't it?

Well Useage will be up a lot this week I think, the washer has been on non stop as we're trying to take advantage of the line drying weather. Plus OH has accidently left the boiler on for the HW a few times. Plus extra lighting etc as its been quite dark this week. Fingers crossed for mondays reading and heres hoping we can get to the end of the month without the heating.

How on earth do you keep your gas down to only 6KWH per day ours is between 11 - 14 without any heating on and I don't think I can get it any lower. Please tell me your secret.

    Hi SuiDreams

We're on a combi boiler so it literally only comes on when we need it. 4 very quick ablutions in the morning (shower or strip wash/scrub down depending on adults or muckmagnets and how near school time it is!) and the gas oven in the evening for dinner.

Also when we changed our washing machine we got one with cold fill only which (and correct me if I'm wrong) relies on the leccy to heat the water rather than drawing hot from the boiler, therefore, when washing we are now only using electric and not gas and electric.

Only snag with using so little gas is that it's all being charged at the primary rate....bah  Did get a huge fright the day I put the CH on for 20 mins to test the system, usage went up dramatically, even though the thermostat is at a constant 18c. Made me even more determined to not put on CH until 1st Nov......or even later if I can manage it........I might have become frozen to the spot and be unable to reach the on button! :rotfl:

We're on an ordinary boiler one tank of hot water a day but OH is always trying to put it on again, nothing I can do about it really (but am considering removing the fuse). Plus Gas hob. Boiler is probably a bit ineffient now as its over 10 years old, will eventually replace with a condensing one. Think we'd end up using more with a combi. Fingers firmly corssed in the hope that heating won't be needed this month.

we cahnged our Gas to ebico ans they have a single rate system works well for low users.

Yes, might have to review that one, we're with Eon.
