Badges on a B and C for last week.
Up a fair bit this week to 130 kWh of gas and 19 kWh of electricity. Total carbon 37 kg and 16th on the list.
Consumption is still low compared to last year.

Good morning merry meter watchers
Here comes Santa Cloud of Doom with our readings for the house of ice. :rotfl:
Your household's total energy spend over the last 52 weeks is £927.92.
For week ending 6th December, 2009 your household spent £29.57 in total.
Electricity A Rate: £15.71
Electricity B Rate: £3.97
Electricity C Rate: £9.89
Plus, of course, weekly standing charge of £1.61
It may look horrific to some but to me it's looking good because I had budgeted £1,200 for the year (average £23.07/week) in an effort to bring it below £1,300 (average £25/week) but having moved house a year ago, I can now see we are well under budget. That's me just completed 52 weeks of readings on imeasyre for here and our weekly average over that years is £19.45 per week, or £1,011.64 in total.I'm ALMOST £200 a year better off in this house. Still means I was E and F on the imeasure scale of things and I expect to be worse next week, but I am fairly happy with this as I, at last, have a warm house! :j
Of course, I still have the other £1 per day average it costs me to light the fire, but I'm going to work on that for 2010.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Results for this week are -
Gas - 43kWh
Electricity - 60kwh
Total carbon - 40kg
Bages - A+ / A+ (woohoo!)
4th on the list.
Our gas results are the same as last week but we have knocked 11kWh off the electricity, so very pleased with that (no idea how, though - it can't be purely down to at last having managed to train the kids to turn off the lights as they leave the room?)
This time last year we were 401kWh for gas and 86kWh for electricity , so really pleased - the huge difference in gas is that CH has been on for 2 x 30 mins this week but was on constant last year and hot water is on 1 hour every other day rather than on demand as last year0 -
We got two Cs again, I was quite surprised as we had the central heating on a lot more, but I guess everyone else has as well.
Temperatures seem to be really fluctuating at the moment, from freezing days to fairly mild like yesterday, causes a lot of variation in our gas use!0 -

Hi all,
Thanks for all the tips!! I've finally decided to start the challenge to reduce gas and electricity spend in the TG house.
I've read my electricity meter for the first time in about 2 years (and no SE haven't read it either, so either my bills have been too low:eek: or I am quite good at this already:rolleyes:, I suspect it is the former...I think I will calculate and then keep quiet while I save some spare pennies.
General leccy use is quite reasonable anyway as we cook and heat on gas. DDs are 4 and 9 months so no multiple gadgets.
Well, I've started by unplugging a TV, digibox, DVD recorder and clock radio that are only used occasionally. Lights are only on when absolutely necessary (not a hit with DH but can at least be done when he is not around!!). DD has been told to switch off lights when leaving a room!! she asked why and I said it costs 2p each time she leaves it on:rolleyes:
The gas meter is situated outside so it is read every 6 months by SE:T. They are hopeless at estimating bills though. Got a refund of £4,16 for the last quarter:rotfl::rotfl:Believe me we use a lot of gas!!! As I have no key to get into the meter box at the moment and it is outside:snow_laug I will just do bits and pieces on this for now (we have heating on 24h to kick in when temp drops below 19 degrees at the mo as DD2 is home all day and DH is always complaining it is too cold!!). Well, I noticed the heating was on this afternoon while DD was napping and switched it off at the boiler for 3 hours....no-one noticed (I mean DH....despite all my efforts even DD2 isn't that far advanced at 9 months;-). BTW...has anyone experimented the usage between 'keep it on low' and a 'few hours on high'?
Enough to keep me going for a while I think....oh...and does anyone have an estimate for what each kwh costs? unfortunately I don't have a bill to hand at the mo...just ballpark? Am with Southern Electric if anyone can help?.....I will work out exactly shortly but at the moment the focus is on reducing kwh!!
Ooh that was a bit long....hope I haven't sent anyone to sleep:o. Time to unplug the laptop methinks:wave:MFiT - T2 # 64start date: 1.7.09 MFW end date: 31.10.17

Hi thrifty girl, welcome to the thread
You can unlock the meter boxes with a large flat screwdriver, an old knife......anything really that is flat and reasonably strong (I use a piece of meccano!)
It really is worth keeping an eye on the meters if you can as you can see the days/ times when you use the most and then change your habits.0 -
Wow what a useful thread, thanks to everyone who have contributed. I have earmarked this thread to read through later on.No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23
Boots points:£39.21. Extra money in 2012:£674.59. In 2013 £603.48. 2014: £85. 2015: £0 :j0 -

Thanks. I will have a play when I get a mo... it will certainly help with the budgeting. Heating is off again as it felt a little warm:jMFiT - T2 # 64start date: 1.7.09 MFW end date: 31.10.17
