As of 16/12/2008 my bill showed a credit of £144.07, and I was paying £60pcm
Made 8 payments at that level (Jan thru Aug inclusive), then 1 of £53 (Sep) and 3 of £47 (Oct thru Dec inclusive).

After production of my latest bill I'm now £162.65 in credit - so paid less and in credit by a further £18.58

Will give it until the weather starts to warm up (hopefully Easter-ish if not sooner), but if I'm still building up credit (or haven't eaten into it much) I think I'll call and ask them to force another annual review (which is what they did to cause the reduction in September)

    Brilliant, very well done:T

I live in a four bedroom end of terrace. This time last year I used an average 430 kWh of Gas each week. That was running the CH as needed (probably about 4 or so hours a day) but without hot water. At the time we had an electric shower and so were using this instead.

Taking into account the fact that we have one 'joined on' wall that we don't lose so much heat through, and the fact that we weren't using the HW, I wouldn't say your use was really huge compared to average.

Do you use imeasure? If so, if you set your comparison reading with other 4 bed detatched, you should get an idea of how much you use compared to others in a similar situation.

Yes I use imeasure , using for 1 year. for a whole year I have been concerned how fast my gas meter turn when I turn on the CH.

    Meter video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydnjbnENm0Y

I never leave the CH on full day or even throughout the evening, I know the meter will turn so much probably around 4 m2 units in the evenig alone which is 44kwh = £1.62 costs

The gas boiler is on 30 mins am for HW and then CH is on from 4pm to 10pm but switched on and off depending on temperature.

Does one think 595 kwh is a lot?

Live in 4 bed detach house.
    I'm in a 4 bed detached (modern build - completed May 2002)

My gas is currently running at 200-250kWh/week.

This is with hot water on for 20 mins in the morning, and heating on from 6:30am to 8am and 6pm to 8:30pm. I also often run the heating during at least one day at the weekend. Central thermostat is set to 17 degrees (give or take the accuracy of a manual dial)

Gas useage also includes a hob, and I use at least one burner (normally two) every evening for 20-30 mins.

I have similar patterns as you.

    House built 1991 4BEDs . New ish.

HW on for 30 min AM and then 10 mins PM
CH on 30 mins AM and then from 4 to 10pm, but controlled, not constantly on!
Gas also includes Cooking hob 1 -2 on for 30 mins each day

With all the controlling Im running at 595 kwh (85kwh per day 8units per day) , which is more than double of CW18 of 200-250 kwh?

    This does concern me?

Basically when I monitor I average of 8 (m2) Meter units each day?

Your water being on the extra 20 mins to mine (so double the use) probably makes quite a difference.

Mine used to be on for an hour morning and half hour evening (minimum), but I found I never used anything like all of it after losing my DH (he used to fill the sink several times every time he washed pots, and have a deep - and hot - bath most days). I noticed a very significant drop in use when I cut it back to 20 mins/day (with the odd boost when elder DS is home on leave and wanting regular showers).

The temperature your thermostat is at will also make a difference...... again I saw a drop when I had sole-ish charge of the controls (and dropped it from 20 to 17)

But it's also going to be impacted by how hard your heating has to work - which will be impacted by area of the country and how exposed your property is.

ETA: Just added up the hours your heating is on for, and that's also considerably more than mine if I discount my weekend boots (which I tend to turn the thermostat down to 16 degrees for), with mine on for for 4 hours and yours on for 6.5hrs. As such I don't think your useage is probably far off compared to mine

I've just entered my results on imeasure, got two C's again.

Our gas use has shot through the roof since the end of last week, it's been so cold I've had the heating on loads just to try and keep the house reasonable. Our gas use doubled with the cold weather!
Doesn't help that me and DS are at home most of the time, if we are both downstairs it isn't too bad as I light the fire but he still has 2 naps a day and despite his room being the warmest in the house I've been struggling to keep it at a suitable temperature. Dread to think what our results will be next week.
How are the rest of you getting on?

Hellooooooo.... here I come, ready or not :rotfl:

Still reading E and F badges but have come in slightly less than I had dreaded, so I'm rather pleased about that. Here goes for the shocker figures:

For week ending 20th December, 2009 your household spent £32.71 in total (+ standing charge)
    Electricity A Rate: £14.94
    Electricity B Rate: £3.27
    Electricity C Rate: £14.50
    Standing charge: £1.61

Total spent last week including SC = £34.32

I had anticipated £35 to £40, so it's a little better than expected. I can't get it lower than this as I need hot water plus I have 4 storage heaters on for what little heat they provide. Coal and logs being used on a daily basis now but light at the end of that tunnel as the landlord has indicated that he's prepared to consider the possibility of us fitting a log burner! :D:j:T

Edited in: This hads brought my weekly average to £19.995, so estimating £20 a week, with hindsight, was a good call! :D
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Frugal living challenge - living on little in 2025 while frugalling towards retirement.
  • My annual consumption went up slightly for the first time this week.

On a C and D this week with gas at 180 kWh and electricity at 18 kWh. Plummeted to 32 / 43 so far on the list. It's impossible for me to keep up in winter.

Just got my bill for the last 14 weeks which is lower than last year by a good bit.
  • Well done thrifty girl and OldMcDonald on the top 5 by the way.

For week ending 20th December, 2009 your household spent £20.66 in total.
Gas meter (cubic metres): £8.28 - Main electricity meter: £12.38

I've had the heating on for a couple of hours each evening this last week, and this has shown in this weeks figures.

Gas - 184 kWh (this is up a whopping 119kWh on last week. I'm really quite shocked by how much it has jumped.

Electricity - 75 kwh (up 12 kWh from last week - this is because I have been doing quite a bit of baking, getting goodies ready for Christmas)

Total carbon - 77 kg (up 31 kg on last week)

    Badges - A+ / A+ (same as last week)

    4 / 43 on the list.
