LM we keep our house at 18 minimum. I know Stuart found he had to keep his house at 18 as well to prevent condensation. I don't think it's good to let your house get damp. It will cost you more money in the long run in re decorating etc. Hope that helps.

I wish I could get my rooms to reach 18 degrees! :rotfl:But I do have a hygrometer so I can see the relative humidity and I have a dehumidifier running 24/7. It's about 14 degrees in here today but the humidity has been dropping over the past few days and has now fallen within the realms of normality - a very rare occurence here. It's a bit worrying, because I don't know why. I've even checked next door and theirs is reading similarly - is this some sort of indication that the temperature is about to plummet and everything freeze? I'd welcome that, as I'm fed up with the mud! Must do some research. (I like a research project now and again). :D

Woohoo, I finally managed to find the carbon club and have joined it. I'm actually ranked 10th too, how chuffed am I!!!!!

  • Now have the thermostat set at 18c as per SMF2's recommendation but it's barely kicking in. Hopefully that means we'll keep any excess moisture at bay and the pennies down.

  • Just submitted my readings and thought I'd post before bed.

Electricity last week was 16 kWh (I've double checked and it is correct).

    Gas was 76 kWh.

    Total CO2 was 24 kg.

Double B and up to 19 on the list. This looks like where I'll stay until around March.

Total CO2 is down a lot compared with last year as I used a lot of gas this time last year - 235 kWh. Must have been a seriously cold month last November.

Good morning from a crisp and frosty corner of Scotland :D No mud here today, it's all frozen solid. :j

    This week's readings:

Your household's total energy spend over the last 51 weeks is £898.35 (+ standing charges).

For week ending 29th November, 2009 your household spent £23.11 (+ standing charge) in total.

Electricity A Rate: £13.27 (daytime general use)
Electricity B Rate: £3.21 (hot water & electric heater)
Electricity C Rate: £6.63 (storage heaters)
    Standing charge: £1.61

    Total spent last week: £24.72
    Average weekly to date: £19.22

I'm 'E' and 'E' on the badges for last week and sitting around 44 of 48 but there's nothing I can do about it. Temperature has dropped a lot, so next week is going to be much worse. Highest reading in the house is currently 15 degrees and that's on the thermometer that sits on top of the mantlepiece. :o

Edited in - OldMcDonald, figures like mine make the overall averages higher because of our situation here (which is unavoidable). For anyone worrying about how much electricity they actually use, we've used 286kWh over the past week. We have no other alternatives, it's electricity plus open fire or nothing.

  • Gosh, my electricity useage seems huge compared to yours, A fiend for life. Your reading is amazing! :)

    This week our usage is:

    Gas - 43 kWh
    Electricity - 71 kWh
    Total CO2 - 46kg

For some reason this puts me at 'AA' rating ( I'm comparing my readings against other end-of-terrace houses) and I'm currently 5th out of 48 on the carbon club. I feel a bit of a fraud to be 5th when I have used more kWh than others:o
  • Imeasure has a bit somewhere saying they include the CO2 per person rather than per household as lower occupancies tend to have higher emissions or ecological footprint compared with higher occupancies. I think this is the right reasoning.

So I either move in with mum and dad which is not an option as they live in a very rural area which is difficult to get a job without a car or paying a fortune on public transport. Or share with other people which would mean being picky on house, landlord and flatmates.

We got two Cs for last week, and it looks like our gas usage has jumped up this week. We have had the heating on a bit more so it isn't surprising.

2 C's for last week - happy with that :)

Readings processed for this week. Electricity exactly the same as last week at 63kWh, but gas has more than doubled  Up from 114kWh to 240kWh

But this week last year was 76kWh on electricity (elder DS home on leave, so some of this will have been his laptop) and a massive 322kWh for gas -- so just happy that we're lower than those figures, especially as the last few days have been really cold and I've had to run the heating to get my work uniforms dry (wasn't something I had to do last year)
