I bought one from Ideal World 18 months ago and it has a hinged lid. From a personal point of view I find being able to just lift the lid and turn things over, add the high rack on top of the low rack food etc., is so much easier than having to take the lid off and put it down before seeing to the food then replacing it. Not making any recommendations to type or make, that is a personal thing, just suggesting a hinged lid like the one below

I'd go for the amazon one because it looks as though it has a larger base area for cooking chicken plus veges. I have one which is barely large enough to take a small chicken on its own.0

Well, I'm going to update...
I went to TJ Hughes and bout a Prolectrix 12Ltr, mostly because it came with all the accessories. It should have been 59.99 but as it was the display model they sold it to me for £49.
Put beef dinner in today with roasts. 2 hours later (on 180 I add) beef is bloody in the middle and so tough me and the kids couldn't eat it. Roasts are hit and miss, some potatoes are crisp, some are soggy, some are warm, some are not. Final result, 90% of the meal went in the bin and OH is heading to McD's. My £6 beef joint is now dog food.
Its going back tomorrow. I'll stick to my roasting tin. Final decision was made for me by my daughter who said "tastes different, and not in a good way".0 -
Oh darn it.....
OH persuaded me to try something else and I've just made the nicest jacket potatoes in the world. Argh!!!0 -
You do need to get "used to" how it cooks before attempting roasts imho!0

Used my halogen for I think the second time yesterday to do roast chicken after the rave reviews on here...
Cooked upside down with foil over for 30 mins at 180ºC, turn it the 'right' way up and cook for another 30 mins with foil on then took the foil off for the last 20-25 mins of cooking. Whilst the chicken was resting I popped some HM frozen yorkshire batters in there with some HM frozen roast potatoes for 20 mins or so and they came out lovelyOnly thing I would do differently is defrost the yorkies a bit before putting them in next time as they cooked on the top before rising so I had yorkshires with a flat top! Still tasted yummy though.
The chicken was gorgeous - really moist and tasty. From now on, all roasts will be halogen roasts!
