I've done the boiled egg, it turned out exactly like had it been cooked on the hob :D

Now, how do you do the bacon please :D

I'm assuming you have a grill plate? A non stick dish? In which case, use the high rack, medium heat until its nice and crispy. I've never been able to get bacon to be so nice and crispy under the grill on my oven.

Have you tried jacket potatoes yet? They turn out beautiful too!

Yep, keep it on the high grill and keep an eye on it just to gauge timings for the first time.
I suppose if you wanted slightly healthier bacon you could put the rashers directly on to the high grill and let the fat drip rather than using the dish, personally though I like to 'mop up' the fat with the bread!

Hi everyone, I'm new to posting but have lurked for a while. I've registered so that I can post and say thank you for this and other threads about halogen ovens. As most of the reviews and reports seemed to be positive, I bought one (the Andrew James one). It arrived today - which is good because my ancient gas cooker is being taken away today too!

It's absolutely perfect for my needs, and I reckon the possibility of having to replace the bulb occasionally is a small price to pay for all the savings I should make on energy. I used the full size cooker on full power just to warm up a bread roll  and it has three large pilot lights eating gas all day long. Now I'm looking forward to experimenting with the halogen cooker - I've just done the bread roll test and it warmed and crisped a frozen bread roll in less than 10 minutes (had to let the roll stand for a few minutes to completely warm through, so a bit more experimenting needed).

I'm a very happy halogen oven user now, and should make huge savings on energy. Thank you for being a brilliant source of information! :T

It's just done perfect crumpets in less time than the gas grill. Now I'm really impressed!

  • This is how I cook my chickens to get them perfect. I put the
flat pan in the bottom with the lower grill on top, put the chicken in upside down, then put the extender ring on. I cook it at 200 until it browns and looks cooked for at least half an hour, then turn it over and cook it the right way around. I don't time as I use all different sizes, but do check around the thigh to make sure there is no blood running. The chickens turn out to be cooked all through, are juicy and perfect taste. :j

Have managed muffins and pastry thanks to help here, but having difficulty with cakes

I've appropriated a 3lb+ chicken from my parents to try in the halogen oven! Thanks for above info - I will definitely do the upside down thing. Does anyone know how long (roughly) and what temp to cook this large chook?
