  • After I sent my ideal world halogen back for either repair or refund they refunded my money. I was disappointed because I loved it. I'm going to wait until they have them again and then order one. I have the smaller one that I bought but I don't like it half as much. It's too small for what I want and the racks are too low. Hi jinnyn, according to ideal world website they are in stock...click on subsection Homes, scroll down the list on left side and click on cooking and dining, then again scroll down the left and click on cookshop, this will bring up the halogen oven, and some other items,im seriously thinking of returning my £120 Remoska and trying one of ideal worlds square cookers which looks very similar..Did you have any problem closing the lid of you Halogen,im finding i have to press the safety button a lot to get it to close properly, not sure if this is a fault or not,ive mentioned it in my review on ideal world website, but no-one answered.
PS,you get a small recipe booklet with the ideal world halogen now,14 recipes, not many but its a start
    Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.
Week 10,total weightloss is now 13.5lbs Week 11 STSweek 14(I think)..-2, total loss now 1 stone exactly
    GOT TO TARGET..1/2lb under now weigh 10st 6.5(lost 1st 3.5lbs)
  • I bought the Ideal World Halogen oven at the end of Aug,(its fan assisted but not infra red like nu wave)it looks very impressive on the worktop But,im having problems(like most people on here)finding advice/recipes to use with it,Ideal world send a wee mini recipe booklet which is a start, but my roast chicken was either pink or dried out, turkey breast fillet went all rubbery, only success ive had was with scones, toasted chees n onion and it is good for grilling, has anyone tried cooking anything like stuffed chicken breasts?,im tempted to try but with free-range chicken being so expensive im worried il ruin them...

You don't need any special recipes, it's just an oven and you can do anything you would do in a normal oven. You do need to get to know it tho, and don't stick religiously to recipe temperatures and timings. All ovens are different, and just because Jamie Oliver's oven cooks chicken to perfection at X temperature for Y minutes it doesn't mean yours will. You will have to adjust the temperature and time a little to match your oven.

oh and for what its worth, ive also recently bought a Remoska, and im struggling with that too:eek:

Stick with them both and learn how they cook, once you get the hang of the temperature and timings you'll be fine.
  • Thank you for your information but when I clicked on the halogen it says it is out of stock. I've asked for an email when they have them back in stock.

  • Hi Cooking-mama
I didn't have any problems with closing the lid. I found this halogen perfect I could cook practically anything in it. I absolutely loved it.

  • I have a JML oven and it took me some time to get used to it but its ok now. I do use cooking bags (from pound shop) to cook a chicken and it comes out very moist. I have never tried to cook a whole meal in it but it grills chops and cooks pies ok, also roast potatoes are ok. I use it for meats that take some time to cook, chicken and joints to save on fuel. I have ordered the cookbook as mentioned on here, I wish I could have bought it when I got oven but manage without the extra dishes they sell.

I wonder sometimes if we try to cook things too quickly as they are advertised as being so much faster than a conventional oven. I find that I have best results when I start stuff off on a lower temperature and then wack it up towards the end for browning or crisping up jacket potatoes.

We are mainly veggie so I am talking about Quorn fillets, escallopes, sausages etc.

I have cooked fish in my halogen wrapped in foil - it turned out very nicely. I tend to cook it for the same amount of time as conventional oven but lower heat.

I would not be without it and God forbid this one packed up after a year, I would get another in a heartbeat. After all it works out about a £1 a week or less.

Aw Jinnyn thats a pity, they were definately in stock this morning, maybe it was the last one or something...hope you get an Email soon...ive had this inkling that maybe the lid on mine is faulty, only had it delivered on 2nd Sept, and have to press the wee button every time its opened/lifted,maybe i should phone them up about it,tho ive read ideal worlds call centers are overseas, expensive to phone and a bit of an accent problem..im Scottish,so that tends to make the language barrier even worse for overseas call centers:eek:..anyhow,the next 2 days are when my halogen(and remoska)will be put through their paces, ive 3 days off work so planning on cooking and freezing loads. Thanks everyone for all the tips..i do think my problem with the halogen is possibly too hot,for too long,il try modifying the temp etc.
Any tips for chicken breasts stuffed with mozzarrela?should i just wrap them in tinfoil and cook at around 180??

  • That should work. Just keep checking how it's doing and alter the temperature to suit. Jinnyn
  • Hi

I am interested in a halogen oven, and have spent a while looking at this thread.

Woolworth's is defunct. My local T J Hughes does not have any, and so on.

Does anyone have an oven that has both stood the test of time, and is still available on mail order, and in stock?

I was thinking in the £40 to £60 range. Of course, the cheaper the better, but I would rather pay a bit more for something that will not break in a months time.

    Thanks in advance
