I keep getting turned down for things and about to start DMP hence bank account. Not good at all financially.

I thought I was told by CCCS that for basic bank accounts they didnt do a credit check.....not necessarily Nationwide but banks etc as a whole.

Really, don't worry. You will be able to get an account somewhere and it's not going to be that difficult.

If you are not asking for an overdraft or a credit card, the bank will not care too much about your credit history.

My credit file by now has at least two defaults and a fair few missed payments and I still managed to get 2 mobile phone contracts which were subject to credit checks.

    Don't panic, this isn't a big problem.

Shazand was it hire purchase or a loan? I would take advice on it really. But first you could write a letter of complaint explain you are having financial difficulty and tell them you can afford a £1 - the only bit that worries me is if it is hire purchase. Hence I say take proper advice. If its a loan try your luck at getting the charges dropped.

rayday2 - it was a loan agreement. I think I am going to try my luck and see if I can get the charges dropped/reduced by advising my financial problems - thanks rayday2 - you are a real star. :T

  • Thanks all.

I just rang CCCS and the lady there seemed to think Nationwide was on their list. She is kindly sending me a list in the post as one never came to me initially.

I have everything crossed that they accept me as will be !!!!!!ed if they don't. Helps me massively.

If Nationwide say no then stuff 'em. There are plenty of others.

Banks are legally obliged to check your identity and that's what the credit check is all about. They must be certain that you are who you say you are and that you're not a terrorist or other criminal trying to launder money.

Good luck, if you don't try you don't get. It will cost them to process the account if they only get offered a £1 a month so you never know a good moan at them for the unfair charges, you may even be able to use the template letter for claiming banking charges. Take a look at it see if you can use bits.

Hi all I have finally got round to setting up my DMP and am now awating the forms I have to sign and return. Its quite a relief. i have a couple of questions though. I have a credit card for work that I claim expenses for and have to pay back that month so it never accrues would I still be able to use this? And am I obliged to provide cccs with details of any extra money I get so it can instantly go on my DMP?

Oh i'll be here a while too there is a fair bit to pay off

    HA...

finally caught up...well with this part of the thread anyhow!

Can someone point me in the right direction of what the NR saga is with CCCS or give me the potted history?

I'm literally on the verge of sending token payments (tomorrow am) with the accompanying CCCS letter first payment due to CCCS on 10th July.

The DMP is solely for the credit in my name with four creditors.

My wife and I have a joint mortgage with an unsecured loan attached: a Together mortgage.

From the parts I've read here it would appear that CCCS appear to want to force that onto the DMP; surely they can't if it's in joint names and this isn't anything to do with our joint accounts as this would obviously mean NR would pursue my wife for the money; ergo I'd end up paying it as she's stopping at home raising the kiddywinks.

When I filled in the forms for CCCS I just told them that I have to make a mortgage payment of £800 (approx; well they got the exact figure but I don't remember it off hand) - I didn't even think about it not being a standard mortgage?

hmmmm I think there's going to be some food for thought depending on the responses I get as I don't think I have the stamina right now to go for it alone (i.e. without a charity/company behind me; I know you guys/gals are here but I'm just not ready to do my own DMP yet).

I'm not sure on this...but it's my view (on what I've read etc.) that companies take a dim view about taking on more "credit" when on a DMP even if you do pay it off every month? maybe someone who's been in exactly this situation will be able to advise you better though.

If you read around on here a bit you'll see a few people have errm...well...brought there budgeted figures in line with the national averages to help with the extra money question :D .

LMW - Personally I think that you should be ok with the work credit card - if you xplain that it is needed for work and is paid off via expenses rather than out of your own pocket. I could see how creditors might wonder where you are getting the money from if you run up £200 every month and then settle it outright.

Just thought I would pop in and update you on Northern Rock. I missed a called from a private number last night and when I checked my email this morning, it was from a Senior Manager at Northern Rock saying he had tried to phone to let me know that my letter had been passed to him and he would respond to me within 7 days. So why do I now feel sick? It's not like they can do any more than what they are already doing and who knows, maybe they will agree to my DMP? I don't think my email was very agressive, although at the end of the day it was a complaint:rolleyes: . I did say (amongst lots of other stuff obviously)

"we are all aware of Northern Rock's current difficulties and whilst it appears that they have been allowed the time and grace to get their affairs back into order (not without some not so small assistance from the tax payer) it seems that their customers who may be struggling, are not afforded the same luxury"

I may also have mentioned something about "pot, kettle, black" but not in a flippant way. ( I did say "I do not wish to sound flippant" - It's the truth tho - isn't it?)

Do you think I went too far?

What REALLY irritates me about NR is the way they seem to treat everyone differently (I know each case is individual) but it's the way they keep INSISTING thay they CAN'T agree to my DMP when what they mean is they WON'T as we all know they have accepted others. If they just said "ok, we COULD but we WON'T", I'd have a bit more respect for them.

Anyway watch this space for an update in the next few days.

Hope everyone enjoys the sunshine today :D (soz if you haven't got any:rolleyes: )

Fair point if bernie mentions it all outright I guess there's no quarrel to be had...but from all the docs etc. I've seen (which I'll freely admit is not many as I'm just starting out) they all seem to be saying you need to try to avoid extra credit...

having said that I guess it's not extra if you've told them about it up front...:D

honesty is the best policy after all!
