I got turned down for a Co-Op Current Account (online) and went down to my local(ish) branch with the letter, and the lady there did my application for the cashminder. It still had to be approved on high, but I'm sure it does help to speak to an actual real live person sometimes!

  • I first looked on this thread at the weekend as I was at the end of my tether debt wise. Due to a large mortgage and a consolidation secured loan (more like a second mortgage) things were just getting more and more difficult. We should never have taken out the secured loan and instead have paid off the unsecured stuff at the time via a DMP. I suppose you live and learn and through this thread I've learned about the CCCS. I have contacted them and am now awaiting my Low Start Debt Management Plan pack.

I am beginning to wonder now whether I would be should self-administer purely due to the fact that I have a rather complicated situation with the Northern Rock. We have a personal loan with them (unsecured - £19,500) which costs £197 per month. At the moment my sister kindly pays this for us (I have no pride left!!) via direct debit and therefore this one is not a problem but CCCS say I have to include this in the DMP as no creditor should get preferential treatment. However, what I'm worried about is that if sister stops paying the DD we are in effect £197 worse off and will only have £200 to pay DMP as opposed to the £390 CCCS have worked out. Also due to the large debt I'm scared that if we go onto a payment plan the Northern Rock will apply to make us bankrupt. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If I self-administered I wondered if I could leave this out of my calculations or would my other creditors see it on my credit file (do they look at this when you send in your DMP offer?).

On the plus side, I have opened a new bank account, just need to start the ball rolling setting up salary details etc - too late for this month though. Can't wait to have an account in the black again....:j
No more credit for me - I will no longer live beyond my means :A

    Hi Ruthie

Don't despair - have a look at this thread:

and you can ask these questions to a cccs counsellor who will definitely be able to give you the right advice. Don't do anything until you've had a reply, which will be quick. I'm just starting a self-admin dmp because my circumstances are complicated and I know, having had such good advice from that thread, that I'm doing exactly the right thing.

Go for it and ask a question!

  • Thanks lou - when I did mention that my sister paid it to the CCCS the counsellor said "was that fair, did she incur the debt" - made me feel pretty bad  - our mortgage is with the NR as well so that is worrying me too.

Should receive my pack tomorrow, but am thinking of going down the self-administration route as circumstances are likely to change from month to month. I think with all the advice on here and the CCCS info I will be well-equipped for the challenge.

    Hi Ruthie :o
Could you not include the payments your sister makes as income? Does she know about the DMP? That way you would have more to share around your creditors although you couldn't pay it all off that one loan. I think (but only think!!) that your creditors can look at your credit file and wouldn't be happy with preferential treatment. If you go through CCCS, ye4s you would need to include the loan as well. Not too sure about your own DMP though!
CCCS have been brilliant for us, giving us a really new lease of life!

    Good Morning Everyone,

I had a phone call last night from Robinson Way. My boyfriend answered the phone and I've never heard of them so he took a message. They wouldn't tell him what it was about but gave him a phone number, they said I should know what it's about as they've been writing to me. I called them back and they asked me to confirm my D.O.B and address which I wouldn't do as I 'd never heard of them before and he said you should have as we've been writing to your home address. I said I hadn't received anything and then he came back with, "you probably haven't received the 1st letter yet, this is a call in advance of the corrspondance". I've told them I'll wait for the letter and goodbye. I thought it was well out of order and when I get a letter I'll be writing back telling them not to call me again.

I have no idea what debt they are for but have a feeling it could be my Natwest Loan/Overdraft.

Anyone else had any dealings with them?

  • Just wondered if anyone had any experience with opening a Nat West Step Account? I applied online, got the forms to sign last Tuesday, posted them Wednesday, but haven't heard anything back from them yet.....

Anyone know when I can expect to hear from them, or get my account up and running? Get paid start of next week, so could do with letting work know my new details!

I can't believe the phone call I've just had. For some reason the ansafone didn't kick in when an 0845 number rang. It kept ringing and I just go so angry as it's late and answered it. It was a lady from Barclaycard. I told her about cccs and gave her the reference number and she was amazing. She said not to worry I was doing the right thing and that she would put a hold on the account straightaway so I'd get no more calls and that they'd wait for my letter. She said I could do a plan with them for £40 monthly but that I'd be sensible just paying the £1 token payment if that's all i could afford for now. She said cccs were wonderful but to ring Barclaycard if I needed more advice.

I found Barclaycard were really helpful and pleasant to me, too. Along with the Co-op, they have been the easiest to deal with and most understanding. If only MBNA had been the same I would now have a stress free time on my DMP! Since starting the DMP I haven't had a single phone call or letter from Barclaycard and the statement I receive just has a sentence on it to carry on with the payment plan. They've stopped interest and charges so I can finally see my balance owed to them going down.

Co-op have been just as good, in fact I only had one phone call from them at the start and have had no contact apart from a letter to say they will stop interest and charges for a year. :T
