Thanks guys, I have just rung Coop and i now have a Cashminder account! I am slightly miffed because apparently I won't be able to use it in some countries abroad. But hey ho. Time to move onwards...

  • Nice one Lou. At least you don't have to worry about your cash being nabbed now! :j I wouldn't worry too much about the electron card. I used to have one and I seem to remember lots of places abroad took it at their cashpoints. In fact, a lot more than in this country! Not that that's an issue really ... the next time I'll be able to afford to go abroad people will probably be travelling in time machines and money will be a thing of the past  heh heh

My piece of good news for today is that OH's van passed its MOT first time with no worries, so the money we'd put aside for any repairs can now roll over to my MOT on Thursday. I have a feeling mine won't be quite such an easy ride through, but less worried now as there's a little more cash aside to deal with any probs. OH has seen an identical model to mine in a scrapyard and is going to get some bits he thinks it will need and do those repairs himself. I don't use my little run-around very often so there's no hurry on getting things fixed thank goodness. I can register it as SORN for a few months if necessary.

    Hi S & S

Thanks about the card, you're right about overseas travel - it might have to be a thing of the past. I can't believe how much life has changed. This time last year I had 3 kids in private school with a gorgeous car and big house. I now have 1 child in that school (no afterschool care charges), an old but solid Golf and the same big house with a humungous mortgage. Trying to rent it out and rent somewhere a lot cheaper in town (saving loads of travel costs from out here in the sticks) because we cannot sell. Staying positive and feeling very good about having just one card, a debit card, in my purse rather than the 8 or 9 cards I had a couple of years ago.

On a positive note, I think my children have been warned off credit for good!

Woo hoo! 3 months after making initial enquiries into how to get my money messes sorted, I am officially on a DMP with Payplan therefore am introducing myself to this thread :)

It's coincided nicely with work annual payrise so am able to contribute a little bit more than first expected which is a good feeling.

Have been budgeting like mad the past 3 months in order to get myself ready and I think I can do this now. I've just found out I am expecting my second baby (what timing, hoho :rotfl: ) but even that hasn't phased me as I have already got all the kit from first time round, and anything else we need I plan to ask for from relatives as Xmas pressies or in the form of vouchers for baby shops.

In short, I have decided that from this point on I will:-

    1) No longer worry myself stupid over money - it's now being dealt with.
    2) Stick to my monthly budget and be happy that we have a budget in the first place.
    3) Relax and remember that come June 2012, when the kids are almost done with school, we will be DEBT-FREE!

I think that some online supermarkets don't accept electron :o

OH had an electron card and I can't remember him having any issues in shops - just a few online sites.

I've not had it long as I set it up because of worries about the Santander group getting my wages from my A&L account to pay debt to GE Money (not happened yet ;)). Only really used it to pay in and withdraw cash so far...

i have not had too many problems with the electron cards except Tesco online don't take them and you cannot use at Asda to pay for petrol at the pump ( which is a bummer as Milton Keynes is pay at the pump only)

The thing to bear in mind when abroad and/or online is to perhaps use a prepay card, for security and peace of mind?

I've had my cashminder account for a couple of months and it's really good. Regular statements and their online system is basic but it does the basics really well!

    Dear All
just wanted to say that we have now been in a DMP for just over a year.
All creditors stopped charges and interest eventually and following yearly review our DFD is now reduced by 2 years!!.
Whilst it hasn't all been plain sailing life is so much better and starting a DMP has been the best thing for us and our family.
The DMP support thread has been fab and would like to say a big thank you to you all for sharing your experiences.
good luck to all of you just starting out.

I will be a regular soon. had all the paperwork today from paypal, just need to get my new account opened and transfer wages. Going to see welfare at work on monday. Not sure if they can help at all, but I was so worried about work finding out, I thought I would just tell them. The welfare officer just laughed and said "is that the worst thing you have done, got into a mess with money". Slightly relieved.

Thank you for sharing your experience too! For those of us just about to enter a DMP it's very reassuring to know that people have had positive experiences. I am hoping very much that I can post in a year's time and say the same thing!!!
