    some advice please.

im just about to start a DMP, when i received a letter today from barclays basically saying

"your account is now being closed and will no longer be managed by ourselves and will be referred for recovery action. an agent appointed by the bank will contact you directly to discuss your offer and repayment of your debt"

it was all going too smoothly, so what can i expect over the next few weeks/ months? if people start knocking on the door it could spell big trouble for me and my marriage. i promised that such a thing wouldnt happen. im starting to get a bit worried.

    any info gratefully received.

Hi riquelme, I know it's hard, but try not to worry too much - you're not the only person in the world who's ever got into debt, and you won't be the last! How will it affect your marriage? Does your OH not know of your debts?

Debts are often sold on to other companies, I've got a couple that must've changed hands about 5 or 6 times each since the original company I got into debt with! You will just get another bunch of letters, a few phone calls - but quote your DMP / client number, and continue making payments, and it will all die down eventually.

You have made a big step in starting a dmp - people have to respect that; you are addressing the issues, its not like you've got your head in the sand... good luck! :)

HBOS could merge with Lloyds TSB - just a word of warning to those opening "safe" bank accounts ;)

Pain in the neck. We're going to have to change bank accounts again I think if this goes through

I was to be paying £250 a month but cccs said budget too low for some stuff so now £130, which will obviously adds time but at least it's realistic and means I'm more likely to stick to it, especially as it's so long term.

Just wanted to let you know about a conversation I had with MBNA. My and OH Abbey cards are ran by MBNA we have entered into a DMP with CCCS. MBNA told me that the amount we are currently paying is not enought to stop a default and the debt sold on, although they understand our financial situation and have stopped all interest and charges. They told me they can do this for 5 months before defulting and that they just wanted to let us know the amounts we would need to pay to prevent this and that if we were able to increase our amounts they would enter an arrangement to pay on our credit file which MBNA said is far better than a default. Sorry for the ramble but my point is that at least they are giving us 5 months to find our feet with the DMP the lady was really nice and I actually was able to ask a few questions that had been bugging me. Just really wanted to share this for folk who have MBNA as one of their creditors.

I found that with a couple of them from MBNA (Abbey). It's just RMA who are a pain. Just had one of their 'calling cards' through the door saying they were coming to visit on Fri. Good luck to them.

My first payments from PayPlan have finally cleared and I thing all but one have noticed this. Only Northern Rock are adament that they haven't received payment, which is a bit worrying, or a crafty tactic?

  • Hi guys. I haven't been around for a while - apologies.:o

I was just wondering about interest. Whilst all of our creditors have been accepting payments from us via CCCS for almost 3 months now, some of them appear to be adding interest which we assume they will want paid at the end of the term. CCCS told us that after 3 months we could ask them to stop charging interest. Do you think they will agree to this?

Also, one of our Lloyds TSB loans has told us they will accept payments for 6 months and then will expect payments to revert to what they were before our payment plan. Realistically will they do this or is it just an empty threat? We have two other Lloyds TSB loans and we have not heard a dickie bird from them, they just seem to have accepted the plan.

But I've also got two creditors for smallish amounts who are being even more of a pain than MBNA.

Both of them seem to ignore my letters - sent recorded delivery - telling them I'm with Payplan and keep writing to me saying I'm not responding to their letters. I have just written to one telling them this is the 4th time I've told them I'm with Payplan but don't expect to get anywhere this time either. The other has sent me a letter saying the level of payment I'm making is unacceptable - no mention of Payplan anywhere or acknowledgement I'm on a management plan.

I am starting to get annoyed with the pair of them now, there's no way I'm going to phone them up to discuss this so I'm thinking of writing a strongly worded letter to them both. The problem is I'm no good at anything like that - can anyone offer any suggestions? The payment they are getting is low, I agree with them on that but it's pro rata across my creditors and these two are owed the least. I'm hoping to save enough to pay at least half of these amounts off over the next few months anyway.

This is something that really annoys me too. It makes me so mad  that creditors don't seem capable of writing a personalised letter instead of (or at least as well as) the automated ones that get churned out by their computer systems.

I created my own standard letter ;) that simply refers to their letter of X date, and then says, "As you are already aware, I set up a DMP earlier in the year with the CCCS due to financial difficulties. My situation remains unchanged. You will continue to receive a payment of £X on the 25th of each month via the CCCS. My CCCS client reference is X and the CCCS' telephone number is X".

I fire this letter off in response to every one I get from creditors chasing payment (though apart from the Nationwide recently, this hasn't been necessary for quite a while as it's now all settled down).
    Debt Jan 2008: £45,566. *** June 2013: DEBT FREE! ***
Paid back just under £50,000 due to some interest added.

  • Hi all,

Just a quick word to calm some nerves.

If HBOS and Lloyds TSB do merge, it does't mean that you will have to change bank accounts. It will depend on whether they both get to keep their seperate licenses, and therefore keep their seperate identities.

One of my biggest creditors is Royal Bank of Scotland as they own Tesco finance and Mint. My new "safe" bank account is with Nat West who merged with Royal Bank of Scotland a few year back, but crutially, they kept their own identity. I have had no problems with either bank.

Listening to Martin on Radio 2 earlier today, he thought it would be highly likely that they would both keep their own seperate licenses, so we should't panic too much.

Hope this calms a few nerves.

HSBC are my biggest creditor and I get 4-6 calls a day (no longer answering them as dmpstarts 1st oct and sick of telling 30,000 abusive people this!). have just deleted my details - fingers crossed!

Thought I was being optimistic but after deleting my phone numbers from HSBC online banking i have had NO calls today - it could be a co-incidence but i have been having 4-6 calls a day on a GOOD day and 8-10 calls on a bad days so if I don't get any tomorrow either I'd suggest you all get onto you internet banking and wipe your phone numbers! :j
