Despite having read a number of sites and looked through a few forums, I am still confused with satnavs.

I don't drive enough miles off my normal routes (maybe 1500 a year) to make them anything other than a very expensive accessory, but I'd still be tempted with one that had the following features:

    - link to Trafficmaster congestion system, with some sort of simple alternative route suggestion mode
    - touch screen operation when driving
    - speed camera database with simple update process
    - European map option
    - easy fit/detach and size small enough to fit in a pocket when not in use

I was in a friend's new Saab TD a few weeks back, and the factory satnav in that was great; but I don't think it had speed cameras, and the alternate route we chose to avoid a crash site on the M25 turned out to be just as slow as if we'd stayed on the original route! It also seemed a larger size than the portable ones, which would have made it intrusive if mounted on the dash.

I have been looking for a sat nav which covers europe as well as the uk.

I have no idea really what im looking at in terms of technical stuff and need help.

I want one that lets you know when there are problems with traffic en route and also speed camera alerts. Also im sure ive read that even if you buy a europe one you need to buy a card or software in addition?!

Are the tom tom ones better? I just want one that i can plug in and go!

    PLEASE HELP

I have just bought a Navigo GPS after seeing it on money saving expert and I am sending it straight back. You really do get what you pay for. It did not recognise any postcode I put in - even when it was my own home postcode. I have the most up to date software so this was not the problem. I have used TomTom before and i am now going to buy one for myself as this is by far the best. I would rather pay the extra bit of money then have a Sat Nav that is just plain crap. I tested it on a few journeys that I knew very well and it took me off in completely different directions. Also it does not seem to recognise motorways. I did a test journey to go to Gatwick and it took me through the centre of London and not on the M4 like the TomTom did (the motorway was better because you did not have the traffic). It is a very frustrating device to use - cheap is not always the way to go, sometimes you just have to pay that bit extra.
  • Has any one had a problem with Ebuyer I put my order in for the Navigo GPS Sat Nav on the 25th June told it would be delivered on the 27 June but it is now July 7 I have phoned twice and was told it had been sorted and Ebuyer would Email me but no Email or Sat Nav is it me or do Ebuyer have always taken so long to deliver goods

I went to argos to buy the £99 tom tom in their 7 day megadeal sale. But you cant see it on display the box is sealed and you cannot return unless faulty.

I ended up in Halfords, which had by far the best display
i was even allowed to try a display one to see how it looked in the car.

I was going to plump for a 3.5 inch Tom Tom,but in the end i plumpt for a GARMIN NUVI 200 W which is a WIDESCREEN 4.3 inch model. The difference is enormous especially if you wear specs or are older.

Why Garmin? 2 seperate guys i spoke to said they are 1/
used in the Military. 2/ Very few are returned faulty 3/Least niggles and easier to use than Tom Tom

Cost at present £114 - 4% discount if you go through quidco.

The Europe inclusive version is £139

Hope this info helps someone,John Lewis would be first choice because of their service and 2 yr warranty etc,but selection limited.

    Hope this info helps someone!
never put off buying a bargain today,it may be gone tomorrow

Very few people (out of the thousands) who bought this SatNav actually used the pre-installed software (which everyone knows is c**p). The beauty of it however is when you install TomTom, MioMap, Route 66 or iGO8. Best of all, you can install all of these at the same time and use different software at different times. I was so impressed that I went and bought the widescreen version as well and running TomTom & iGO8 with the 3D buildings and terrain on it. Awosome piece of kit. You should have looked at the reviews and forum on eBuyer before buying.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

Looking to buy a sat nav system, to work both UK and europe...
however, looking at comparison sites, and most seem to work via usb chargers....
Our cars do not seem to have this connection..will they also work via cigarette lighter socket or other means?
    thanks

I did look at the reviews but no one tells you how to load the TomTom software onto the Navigo. And what would happen if the Navigo was to go wrong and you needed to get it fixed where would you go? Surely the warranty still wouldn't stand if you uploaded new software?

THE GARMIN RANGE CAN ALL BE MAINS CHARGED AT HOME VIA A MINI USB ADAPTOR.

Searching on ebay i found a brand new padded carry case and mains adapter both for under £15 inc postage. In shops both these items are around £18 each to buy.

I have not yet figured out how to route the car lead through my Focus.! Trailing leads are not a good option!

Please check out my post i did alot of research this last weekend HALFORDS came out very well in my opinion, because the guy that served me was REALLY HELPFUL!Plus you can play with the units and see what they do.He pointed out the pros and cons and niggles. They have a wide range on display to choose from...I nearly bought on,having not been able to see it working.

BEWARE AS SOME PLACES (ARGOS) WONT TAKE IT BACK IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND...THEIR 14 DAY RETURNS DOES NOT APPLY TO SAT NAV'S

The Widescreen version of the Navigo is now reduced to an unbelievable price:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136328

I bought mine few weeks ago (when at its full price:mad:) but no regrets as I have TomTom, MioMap and iGO8 installed on widescreen which is superb.
    Highly recommended.
