Very nice. What species is it?

They're Cornsnakes - originating from N America, but are very common in the captive reptile trade as they're relatively easy to look after, very placid, don't get too big and make great beginner's snakes :)

And ... they come in a variety of colours and patterns too! :rotfl:

I won't bore you with the details of the genetics involved, but at the last count there was around 43 different colour/pattern combinations in the UK alone, with more being worked on as I type!

These all originate from just 3 different subspecies originally found in NA, and the one pictured above is what we call a "classic" and is the same colour as would be found in the wild, but I do have a few different flavours this year ;)

Sorry for going OT folks :o ... and I've just thought that anyone reading this with a snake phobia might not appreciate me posting that pic, so if anyone's upset/offended please tell me and I'll be happy to remove it :)

Very happy - didn't take the nappies back too boots - too many and too bulky after some thought.

Bought my food processor though! And had enough points left for an electric knife as well!
My dad is buying me the Breadmaker for Christmas as a belated birthday/christmas combo!

Off to check out the recipie thread to see what I can do with it now!
Clarks doesn't have a sale - just the dregs of the last one left!

I'm off with the Steam Cleaner to tackle the bathroom now.

    And love the snakes!
How many baby ones have you got?

    Thanks! :D

I've got 22 this year and a couple left from last year that I haven't decided what to do with yet. They were particularly stunning colours, which is why I kept them back, but I've a sneaky feeling they're males so I'll probably end up selling them otherwise I'll put them back into the breeding programme in a couple of years.

    Hi.
Am feeling yukky today - stinking cold. DD rang this morning & was on phone for hours - but I just about made it to the building society before closing time, although had to drive down to town instead of walking.
Hardly anything done that I wanted to get done.
CQ - I am not going to show that photo to our DS2, as he would quite like pet snakes and although I don't have a phobia - and think that other peoples snakes are ok - still don't need any as pets! ;-)
  • Hi, I'm feeling :j today but am being a bit lazy and pottering around rather than getting on:D

CQ the baby snakes lok beautiful. First snake I ever met was a corn snake and it converted me instantly, lovely creature.

Not overly keen on snakes myself and sometimes get the shudders even looking at them. I guessed a picture was coming up and chose to look still and I was fine, think I was interested in how colourful yours are CQ, but if you're concerned about anyone seeing who'd rather not you could edit your post before the post with the picture to say there's a snake picture coming up.
  • Hello everyone and hope you like my new picture - I was so upset when they had a building burn down it just seems such a waste of all their hard work. Anyway cant say I love snakes like you inapickle but I can see how pretty they are. 22 though that must take up a lot of room CQ.

Had a lovely day today because the sun has shone all day, actually sat in my garden for a while and read the paper with the water feature on in the background - heaven. I think this may well be the last time but fingers crossed.

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend and enjoy your evening :A

    Yet another retrospective post :o

Had quite a good OS day after a really bad start, really fed up about lack of job at the moment and didn't want to get out of bed, but in the end today:

Went to freshers fayre at the university (5th year of going - OH still a student) - got a few freebies but had to resist all the pens we have so many at the moment , did get some discount vouchers for the local shops, a few keyrings, a couple of nice reusable bags, sweets and bottles of water from topshop, a couple of yo-yos (which are going in my operation Christmas child shoe boxes) and joined the musical society we're in again :)

Then we took our plastic bottles, glass, cans and paper to the banks in B+Q car park.

Wrapped up my second Operation Christmas Child shoebox and have started packing them.

Walked into York and was very good - no unsheduled purchases, just the few things we needed (using our reusable cotton bag ;) ) and had a drink and cake in the fair trade church cafe which is lovely (OH treated me :) )

Have done 3 loads of washing including towels and one of jumpers, have 3 more loads to do but no space to dry it (live in a 1st floor flat) really need to get better at doing washing during the week

Have made Fairy cakes too - first lot of baking in our new tiny kitchen since we moved in 3 weeks ago, wasn't too hard but had to use the hob as the sides are a bit busy. Chocolate topping is currently drying on them on the bookcase in the bedroom (we're a bit short of free surfaces :o )

Just need to do all the washing up now - still really missing my dishwasher :(
