1) Beat
2) https://www.b-eat.co.uk
3) beat is the leading UK charity for people with eating disorders and their families
4)Eating disorders are a serious mental illness affecting 1.1 million people in the UK. beat provides helplines for adults and young people, online support and a UK-wide network of self-help groups to help people beat their eating disorder.beat's vision is simple: Eating Disorders will be Beaten.
My girlfriend has suffered with an eating disorder for over 10 years. Whilst it is not bad enough to require hospital treatment, it has triggered serious depression and combined with the eating disorder affects our daily lives. It is not just a mental problem, it is a serious illness with chemical imbalances, meaning that this and food are on her mind constantly. Beat tries to enhance the public feeling regarding eating disorders, and we both feel that public awareness is still lacking - it is seen as a taboo. Even mentions of weight loss or clothes sizes (whether pro or against size zeros for example) on TV are enough to trigger serious eating disorder or depressive cycles for many thousands of sufferers. Please help.0 -
I would like to nominate
A) The Erb's Palsy Group reg charity no 1036423www.erbspalsygroup.co.uk
C) the only charity in the Uk supporting those suffering from and families affected by Erb's Palsy.
Erb's Palsy is a disabilty arising out of a traumatic birth - it affects 1 in 1800 births and babies are left with one or both arms paralysed for life.
The charity is run SOLELY by volunteers - no paid workers at all and they offer advise on treatments and benefits available for these babies.
They have a range of leaflets available for parents and books for children with the condition - they send out a newsletter every three months.
In addition to this support for families they also run training days for Midwives and Therapists to enable them to better help labouring mothers and newborn babies with this condition.
They have NO formal funding and rely on donations and fundraising by members to continue with this valuable work.

a. Nightingale House Hospice (Hospis Ty'r Eos), Wrexham
b. http://www.nightingaleappeal.co.uk
c. specialist palliative care services, completely free of charge
d. Nightingale House Hospice does a marvellous job of caring for terminally ill patients and families. I have many friends who have benefitted from the services provided by this establishment. The Hospice is an independent provider, principally supported by the public, organisations, trusts and companies, with just 18% of annual revenue coming from Government sources. Nightingale House needs to raise £2.2million this year to keep providing specialist palliative care services, and with just 18% currently coming from Government sources, they have to rely on the goodwill and support of the community, individuals, companies and organisations - in short, people like you. Please give serious consideration to this nomination, they do such a good job of putting minds and bodies at ease at times of suffering.:smileyhea0 -

Set up to commission new plays by new authors.
Every year we try to raise funds for this small charity. It was set up by John & Ruth Winter, Sophie's parents. Sophie was an actress who died of a mis-diagnosed ectopic pregnancy(John & Ruth Winter also set up The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust). They are both now in their late 60's early 70's and would like to commission a few more plays. They rely on friends & aquaintances to support their campaigning.
Every penny raised goes to the new authors to produce a play.
There are no costs for administration. Nothing is wasted.
There have been some very good plays produced by this charity.
Everything can be found on SWMT website.
Here's hoping
Many thanks

a. Business Opportunities for the Physically Handicapped
b. http://www.boph.org.uk/
c. Workshop that improves lives of Physically Handicapped people
d. The workshop has 2 full time and one part time employee and 20 volunteers. It is a registered charity but does not receive any state grants and relies solely on charity donations, sponsorship and fund raising events. The workshop has 20 placemens for physically and mentally handicapped people from ages ranging from 16 to 50 years and the majority of these have learning difficulties. It provides a working environment where the attendee's take part in simple working activities for local business's. This provides them with independance and a safe place of work. These people would never be given the oppotunity to work in a normal working environment. It provides stability in their lives, it enhances their personal development and maximises their own potential. It also provides a much valued respite for their family and carers Monday to Friday. Spiriling costs of running the workshop, the increasingly difficult times for fund raising we really do need your support0 -
1) ASSERT (Angelman Syndrome Support, Education & Research Trust)
2) http://www.angelmanuk.org
3) UK support group for both parents, families, professionals and anybody else affected by the rare genetic condition Angelman Syndrome.
4) Angelman Syndrome is a rare genetic condition affecting around 1 in 20,000. In most cases there is no family history and children born with the condition will have severe special needs, no speech, physical disability, a lack of awareness and possibly childhood epilepsy. AS means 24 hour care for a normal lifespan.
ASSERT is a small UK registered charity that allows us as parents to pool information and support for anybody affected by the condition. Quite simply, we have over 400 families as members. We organise a conference every two years to which the family is invited, so that everyone can experience being 'normal' again. In addition we have produced a DVD which is currently being distributed worldwide to help families, and we have received fantastic feedback.
I'm both a parent of a 6 year old with AS and one of the 7 trustees.

1) Starlight Children's Foundation
2) http://www.starlight.org.uk/
3) Grants Wishes to Terminally Ill Children and Provides Hospital Entertainment. :A
4) Starlight Children's Foundation brightens the lives of seriously and terminally ill children in order to take their minds off the pain, fear and isolation of their illness and to help strengthen family bonds during difficult times. Where possible, mums, dads, brothers and sisters are involved at what is often a time of great stress and give everyone happy memories to share, no matter what the future may hold. When it began in 1987, the charity helped just 4 children; today, it helps over 500,000 children every year by granting their wishes and providing entertainment in hospitals and hospices throughout the UK. Wish granting has remained the heart of Starlight’s work. A Starlight wish is more than just a special treat to look forward to when the pain won’t go away: it gives children a wonderful choice to make all by themselves at a time when most decisions need to be made for them. A wish remains a positive focus throughout long periods of treatment or recuperation and is often remembered as the turning point. Starlight receives neither Government nor Lottery support.0 -
1. Re-Solv
2. www.re-solv.org
3. Tackling volatile substance abuse particularly among children.
4. This small UK wide charity has made great in-roads into the devastatingly fatal problem of volatile substance abuse but there still remains massive social and health issues. Every year there are over 50 deaths around the UK associated with abuse of volatile substances; Re-Solv aims to educate children, young people and others into the dangers. It is not a 'sexy' subject and doesn't easily attract donors. Re-Solv has an office in England, Scotland and Wales but had to close the Northern Ireland office due to lack of funding - money is drying up.0
