  • I would like to nominate South Essex Rape & Incest Crisis Centre.

    A) South Essex Rape & Incest Crisis Centre
    B)http://www.sericc.org.uk
    c) Provides support to those who have experienced/experiencing sexual violence
    D) SERICC provide a help line to those that have experienced or are experiencing sexual violence, this help line is staffed for 9 hours per week. Due to the lack of services nationwide and the underfunding of rape crisis centres nationally, this help line is very busy and those who may be in need may not be able to get through as there hundreds of unanswered calls whilst the counsellors take calls from others requiring support. Please support this nomination in order to increase services such as counselling, help line, advocacy such as help with housing, support at court, support with contact with social services and support to partners, family members and friends.
  • a. World Vision

    b. www.worldvision.org.uk

    c. Development organisation, working to overcome poverty and injustice.

    d. From their website: 'World Vision works to make a serious and sustainable impact on poverty and its causes, especially as they affect children. We are committed to long-term change, which means connecting people. Whether it’s enabling people in developing communities to support each other, or linking donors to those in need through child sponsorship, or creating networks to campaign for justice, we believe that getting people connected is the best way to make a difference. World Vision serves all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender.'

My involvement: I sponsor a girl in Burma and a boy in Kenya through World Vision. I love hearing about the difference that simple things like micro-loans, skills training, clean water and school materials are making to their communities, helping them to be self-sufficient.

  • I would like to nominate Bliss - the premature baby charity

    www.bliss.org

Provides support and information for people for babies who are too small and sick

I would like to nominate this charity as it has supported me through both my pregnancies - both of my children were born prematurely (28 and 33 weeks).
Bliss research shows that having a sick or premature baby costs parents an extra £189 per week on average during the time their baby stays in hospital. The average total spend for the parents asked was £1,885. But in some cases the extra cost was over £15,000. Bliss provides information on how to find financial assistance and campaigns for changes in government to provide further resources.

    a. Freecycle UK

    b. www.uk.freecycle.org

    c. Local community groups saving money and the environment

    d. The charity has been formed to offer structured support for Freecycle groups all round the UK. Brilliant work is being done by volunteers up and down the country running internet based groups for their communities to facilitate reuse and recycling to cut the amount of stuff going to landfill. The aim of the charity is to provide services and support, including a more user-friendly website, to ensure:

    • provision of more groups
    • continuity of services
    • effective assistance network for group moderators and members.
Freecycle provides a great service to a membership of over a million in the UK - saving money, building local communities, cutting down on landfill. Support from MSE in recommending the service has been much appreciated. It would be wonderful if volunteers and members could also benefit from a funded central infrastructure. Thanks for reading!

    A. St Thomas' Lupus Trust

    B.http://www.lupus.org.uk/

    C. Teaching, Research and Clinical work for Lupus nationwide

D.They are fantastic, I am one of the approx 4200 patients that recieves help from this center.most patients think that the doctors helping them in the Lupus clinic and are paid for by the NHS. In fact only two doctor’s salaries are paid in this way! In parallel with this clinical work the unit runs an international postgraduate teaching programme, with doctors from all over the world spending time in the clinics and laboratories. The research unit is one of the most productive of its kind in Europe. The funding of research is not cheap. Running costs including test tubes, chemicals and so on are expensive and salaries even more so. As yet there is no cure please vote so that they can help more people like me.

  • A. IPSEA (Independent Panel for Special Education Advice)

    B. http://www.ipsea.org.uk

    C. Protecting children's right to learn

    D. One in five of our children has special educational needs (SEN), and needs extra support in order to learn. But the special needs education system is complex and bureaucratic, and negotiating it takes confidence, persistence and knowledge!

IPSEA helps parents understand the system and fight for their children’s rights. Our service is free, most of our work is done by volunteers (many are parents of children with SEN), and we deal with all types of special needs and disabilities across England and Wales. Of every £1 we get, we spend 2p on fundraising, 1p on governance, and 97p on helping thousands of children with special educational needs get the support they need.

PS: If you know a child with SEN who is struggling in school, please visit our website for information and help for them.
  • a. The Place2Be
    b. www.theplace2be.org.uk
    c. Providing emotional/therapeutic support to children in schools.
    d. 80% of children showing behavioural problems at the age of five go on to develop more serious forms of anti-social behaviour. Today’s school children face all kinds of challenges that can throw them off course. Unless they are given the means to cope, their feelings of sadness, fear and anger can easily spill over in the classroom – and in society. Poor behaviour, truancy, low academic achievement, drug and alcohol abuse, teenage pregnancy, involvement in crime; these can all be the consequence of leaving children’s problems unaddressed.

The Place2Be believes in early intervention to give children the means to understand and manage their feelings before they spill over into greater problems. Based in primary schools, we are uniquely placed to help children get their lives back on track. We support and nurture troubled children, giving them the means to move past their problems and build the foundations for a successful life.

  • I would like to nominate the Paul Sartori Foundation

    http://www.paulsartori.wales.org/

    Hospice at home service

The Paul Sartori Foundation provides hospice care in the patients' home. They provide help and advice as well as wonderful nursing care. Currently they provide approximately 14,000 hours of care to local people. I first became aware of them when i was nursing my late husband through end-stage renal (kidney) failure. They provided us with a night nurse so i could sleep at night as i had been looking after him 24/7 up until i heard about them and they also came time during the day so i could recharge my batteries and spend some quality time with our two young children. They provide a fantastic service which is just not available anywhere else in the County but they are extremely under-funded and they need to expand their service as Pembrokeshire has a very large retiree population who may need them in the future.
