that is what i did and have not got any written confirmation but saw the advisor change the details on the computer

Last time the advisor asked my "last" address which was 10 years ago and changed it as my "current" address. He said I had to give him, because the system needed it.
Then my cheque book, debit card and statement were all sent to that address. At the end I got £50 compensation!

So just two words to you "good luck"!!

Went into a branch dinner time to upgrade from a bog standard Classic a/c. The adviser was summonsed and I was escorted into the interview room. After explaining that I have a fundamental distrust of aeroplanes, live in a tent and haven't got a driving license, she gave up on any sales patter and got down to business. After successfully logging in, she encountered some difficulty in performing the required action until I said, "Change the product code to 341, subtype 44 and tariff 1 via the PBS system and then the computer will automatically apply the new rate". If only I could adequately describe the look on her face. "How did you know that ?" was the response. I did not divulge that I shall be eternally greatful to AP for his/her comments in post #55 on here. I suppose that I would have been somewhat surprised though if the punter sitting opposite me wearing, (amongst other things) a donkey jacket and wellies had just told me how to upgrade his account.
Upon my return home, there were a couple of cheques in the post so I made up the total to £2500 with a cheque from my Flexaccount and trotted off down to my local branch. Upon sight of the cheques, the teller said, "You don't want to leave these in this a/c. because you'll get hardly any interest, I'll get an advisor to have a word with you". My protestations of "Yeahbut, nobut, yeahbut" were ignored has she had disappeared into the inner sanctum in a flash. The advisor duly appeared and another interview room loomed. He repeated what the teller had said re interest. I enquired what interest rate was being paid and he replied "0.1%". I suggested that he checked that figure and after doing so he again replied, "0.1%". Thinking that it might take a while for records to be updated, possibly when they update account balances just after midnight or whenever, I decided to enlighten him of my actions a few hours earlier. This prompted some pretty frenzied key pressing until he eventually confirmed my previous actions. It was at this stage that the serious sales push started. I had only drunk half of my coffee by this time so I thought that I would finish it and savour the aircon a while longer. All the products launched were torpedoed until the final savings account paying 5% gross. Should I transfer from an account paying 6% gross (albeit only for 12 months) to one paying 5% ? Some serious consideration required here
Hope I haven't bored you too much and once again thanks to AP.

This has just given me the giggles as I recall my recent visit to Barclays to open the new reg sav acc and had to endure an hour long interview fending off such questions. I eventually name-dropped a certain Martin Lewis and the personal banker then stopped trying to sell me products I didn't need or want :rotfl:

To be honest, I am still not 100% convinced that this is all it takes to upgrade the rate to 6%, as it took the advisor 3 goes before it got accepted by the system. That's why I would prefer to have a written confirmation in the post saying that this has been done.

In the meantime, I will wait until the next interest credit on 1 July and do a full calculation check with a spreadsheet to verify what rate has been applied.

    T&Cs from November 2007:
10.3 On some of our accounts we offer instant cheque value, which means we will start paying you interest straight away for the first £1000.
The other £1500 will start earning interest on Tuesday (working day 2 after pay-in).

I believe, TSB used to give instant cheque value on the full amount until the new T&Cs were introduced.

    Hi

Phoned LTSB yesterday on 0800 0150162. Spoke to rep there and asked for my classic plus to be upgraded in order to get 6%. He asked where I'd heard about the rate, told him Lloyds site and MSE forum.

He upgraded it there and then no questions asked. He then said he had to tell me about house insurance and if I'd like it. I told him no.

He said I'd get written confirmation of new rate in a few days!!

I was shocked at such a positive painless experience!!

nipped into my local TSB on Friday, the sales advisor now has a crib sheet which tells them which sales tactics to emply and which codes to enter for existing classic plus customers... no problems ...took ten minutes..

Thanks for the useful phone numbers on this thread. Just phoned LloydsTSB - very straightforward. Very pleasant and clued-up adviser. She did ask me about their packaged accounts but a simple "no thank you" sufficed to stop the patter. I was told that I should get a letter confirming in the next couple of days.
