Hi

I was wondering if anyone thinks I should appeal this, I got my second parking ticket for parking directly outside my own house, I live in a main street in a flat and I got a ticket for parking there last fri, there is a section of the street where you can park all day, it holds about 6 to 8 cars and all the people who work in the bank, the barbers, haridressers, sandwich shops, pubs, cards shops etc etc all park there, i drop my girls at school at 8.45 and byt the time I come back all these spaces are gone, so i had to park directly next to my flat, and I was parked there for an hour and ten mins and I got a ticket.

Then today both my children have been ill, I came home from work last night and parked outside my flat as again all the spaces have been taken up by others, and I totally forgot all about my car being there, oh walked in with a sheepish look on his face asking if I had been out, I said no I hadnt and said why ? he said cos ur car is down there and I went oh no I forgot do I have a parking ticket and he said I dont know, then looked and lo and behold there is one on there. Now thats £60 I have to pay within the next 14 days, we dont earn a lot of money, and we just dont have that kind of money spare, I feel like they are taking a weeks shopping from us  I know its my fault and I shouldnt have parked there, but I cant afford to pay this and it is outside my house after all, why can others park outside their house and I cant

My daughter and I both have asthma, do you think it would be worth appealing these tickets ?

thanks

Yeah, personally I would appeal the tickets, even though if you do loose it may put you in a worse position.

But the point is the parking in your area needs to be sorted as it's currently unfair. Either a permit system needs to be created or idealy more parking spaces created.

But do remember if you loose, I do believe the charge significantly increases, but I feel you have a good case, and now you have two tickets you might as well go for it!

    GOOD LUCK!! =)

    EDIT: (edit function wasn't working)

So is it like a drop off point? Is it a main high-road, so you live ontop of the shops?

Is there anywhere else possible you could have parked, within a reasonably distance from your house?

It's harsh to say, but you have committed the parking offences, so your only hope of winning any appeal will be on the circumstances why you had to leave the car in a prohibited space.

Saying you "forgot" doesn't sound too promising an excuse.

And you don't own the road outside your house, so have no special right to park there when you feel like it.

you're lucky at least having an hour - at my last house, they put double yellow lines all along the road and then said no driveways were allowed under the Local Plan.

What was the car supposed to do - hover??!!

Luckily we were friends with the landlord of the pub opposite who always let us put the car in the pub car park but we'd have been stuffed otherwise!

I think you have said it all there - sorry about that.

You may want to speak to the council about some sort of permit system?
We have just had a survey of our area asking for our views on thsi very subject.

As has already been mentioned no-one has a "right" to park on a public highway.

I have lived on a main road before with no-where to park within half a mile, that wasn't permit controlled. Such is life.

Time to cough up the money I think.

no its not a drop off point, you can park there, but only for an hour, there is a small car park type thing about 10 mins walk from my house, but its out of view of any houses or shops, so cars often get vandalised there

    i live above shops yes.

    Somewhere legally and safely.

That might be a long way away from your home - not at all unusual
