  • If you are insuring your phone with Talk cover be very wary.........................
They are representatives of supercoverinsurance.com and they used their T&C selectivley.

If you read reviews on the internet you will see that there are numerous cases where they have refused to pay out for what seem to me to be ridiculous reasons. If you take out phone insurance you would expect them to insure you if you lose it under reasonable circumstance!

They have an excess fee of £50 -£75 to pay and when you compare that wih the average £30 of your house insurance you would, in my opinion be better off not bothering.

I'm trying to decide how to insure my mobile phone. Do I use vodaphones insurance or do i use an independant company?

Have anyone got any good experiences or bad to help me make up my mind??

    Thanks

    Liz
  • Last night I took out 12 months insurance with CUSC Foneguard (as recomended on this site). I've a Nokia N97. Premium quoted online was £51 for a year. This morning they send me a receipt saying the premium is actually £60 because it's a high end phone, this is after they have taken my £60 from my card!!!!!!!
I've asked them to refund me in full, but they said that they will have to ask they accounts department to look into it. I HATE companies like that.
    *** DON'T USE CUSC FONEGUARD ***

You have a 14 day cooling off period when you enter into an insurance contract so they should cancel under this basis.

Why don't you add it to your Home Insurance which will normally offer better cover and costs about £20 a year (You may already be covered for it so might not have to pay anything)
  • Just for info, my daughter has an iphone with insurance through CPW. She had it taken from her bag whilst at a party. She reported it to the police the morning after the party when she realised her phone was missing. They logged it but said they could not take it any further. She had reported it to CPW that same morning. I expected her to have problems claiming but CPW passed the claim. She had to pay the excess but was happy just to have her phone replaced with no hassle. However, I have just changed my home insurance and am now cancelling all the separate phone insurances we have as they will be covered under the home policy. I know any calls will not be covered but in most circumstances you are aware within a short time that your phone is missing and should be able to report this to the network provider.

If you have a Vodafone branded phone, Vodafone Cover Me Insurance will provide you with a like for like exchange should your handset get stolen or accidentally damaged. It also includes water damage.

It is also a lot easier since you can pop the phone into one of their stores to be accessed if it is accidentally damaged.

Most high street banks do mobile phone insurance, but the handset needs to be sent back to them for their accessors and any replacement will come from their stock and will be an unbranded handset.

It is worth checking with your bank though! I use a Barclays additions account and that includes phone insurance as part of the monthly account fee. Yes it can be a little more difficult to get the problem sorted, but in my experience dealing direct with phone shops can be just as time consuming. The bottom line is by just going with my bank account insurance I save around £60 a year!

Plainjane you can reduce the chances of the phone being used for expensive call by barring or placing a PIN on international or premium rate numbers.

In a lot of cases an opportunist thief will switch the phone off or take the sim out as they know most people will ring their number to see if it rings so they can find the theif if they are in the same room as them eg the pub

This is exactly what I did today, just insured my Nokia 5800 on a family member's barclays additions plus. They were paying £16 a month for all the various insurance types, so I thought why not, it costs £25 excess to claim just like any other phone insurance.
