  • Trawling the net I found gadgetguardian.co.uk apparently offering very reasonable rates - but I can't find anything about them elsewhere on the net, so have no way of telling what they're like. Anyone here ever signed up with gadgetguardian?
  • Just bought a Galaxy Note from the Carphone Warehouse and I have taken out their Geek Squad Insurance. It may cost £13 per month but the cover is good. Water damage, theft, loss,Accidental damage and extends the warranty.Like the nyhub back up and online storage plus 24 hour tech advice too. Well worth a think.

gadget guardian certainly seem very reasonable, also on their "get a quote" page it lays out exactly what you get and for what price.
  • I had mobile phone insurance with my Co-op bank account which was on special offer of free for the first year (recommended by MSE about this time last year) but that's about to end. Don't want to pay them so switched to standard account and looked to arrange cover separately.

However, CUSC would not insure me on a monthly policy because of the age of my phone (one year and a few months). Their site doesn't make it obvious and the online application didn't complain either, despite asking what month and year I bought the phone in.
"A monthly premium can only be provided if the phone was purchased within the last 6 months."
    (FAQs page)

Similarly, from TalkCover, "The phone must be equal to or less than 6 months old when the policy is first taken out. You can then insure the phone with us for up to 5 years by renewing the policy."
    (Questions page)

However, CUSC did agree to insure me on an annual policy (I don't know whether they normally allow that or not) so I've just accepted that with them for £66 (inclusive of loss cover).

And now I'm going to move my current account to First Direct who will
    give me £100! :D
  • guys, is there a general consensus on which companys to use for covering my smartphone which when new was over £400, i have read before cover thru bank accounts can be slow and repaired with second hand parts etc. I want cover so if my phone becomes faulty im well covered and ill get it fixed or replaced quickly. I have experieced the THREE repair process and its appauling and these htc desires have so many things that go wrong with them i feel i want cover on this occasion.

i have home insurance with zurich and my bank account is santander. so whats recommended for good cover ??

sorry im too lazy to read thru all this thread lol

Have had 2 claims refused, The first which was refused even though it was damaged and due a replacement if I was insured. CUSC claimed it was wear and tear and said I had not reported the damage as soon as I had noticed it, the damage had been intermittent.
Second claim which was refused after phone went missing while on the train. As I hadn`t seen the theft my claim was refused, CUSC said I should have claimed to the police that I had seen the theft, which would have been illegal.
I have since cancelled my insurance and advise you avoid them!

these companies are in it together and will do anything not to pay you out. I am after new phone insurance and it appears that none are of any use.

talkcover/supercover refused my claim because vodafone did not blacklist my phone they in fact only blocked the sim. However vodafone admitted liability and are giving me a replacement phone.

I will probably choose vodafone's insurance but not sure yet

    good luck
  • I have had for three years or more a phone/gadget insurance for three items through Supercoverinsurance for £9.99 a month. All has gone well ie they have taken my money each month, until I had to submit two claims for the very first time ever - one for my work phone a brand new blackberry pickpocketed on metro on a trip to Brussels and the other for my daughter stolen from her handbag at a club in London - both in a week of each other. All requirements for a claim submitted - police reports, phone blocked etc.
That was the end of October - first problem had to deal with was requirment for a three way telephone call charged at high rates to O2 - the questions were long and on one occasion O2 said even thought I was on the end of the phone they were seriosuly in danger of breaching data protection talkign to the insurance company. Dspite repeated chasing nothing till yesterday when they said one phone (Brussles theft) was declined because of an exclusion clause mentioning violent theft!! The other is still being considered becuase they are waiting proof from O2 - sent to them at least twice that the phone was blocked, but they say its not on national database that it is blocked and yet O2 says they have done all they can their end and no other insurance company behaves like this. I'm stressed out about it and fuming - I see from posts other companies try similar tactics but has anyone any guidance (or success stories) on how to overcome this absolute disgraceful behaviour - why have I paid for three years I wonder? Apprciate any help, Erica
