Where do you see the T&C? I mean the policy. You are supposed to buy it without even seeing.
  • Can anyone recommend a decent insurance policy for an iphone 4, where the monthly payment is a decent rate, customer service great, excess isn't extorionate, and covers the usual theft, loss and damage, and have made a claim which has been processed with no problems? I'm begrudged to pay £15.00 a month to insure my phone via O2, but at nearly £300 - £400 for the phone I feel I should get it covered.

What's 'security pin' and what it has to do with 'jamming'.

If he locked the sim card accidentally he needs a PUK from the network to unlock it.

I imagine that the jammed keys means he can't type correctly which means he cannot type in his security pass code (on his screen) to get into his phone to use it.
  • Hi all,

Having examined almost every page and policy on the internet to insure my iPhone 4, I finally decided to take an Added Value Account with Lloyds TSB. Their mobile phone insurance is underwritten by Lifestyle Group PLC. I have the Lloyds TSB Silver Account at £3.99/mnth and this covers mobile phone insurance among other things.

After 10 months I lost my iPhone (something I've never done before). I went straight back to the scene but it had already been taken. I reported my phone lost to everyone and everyone and I've now received notification of a successful insurance claim.

Despite the minor inconvenience of having to wait three weeks, I'm pleased to say that my claim was accepted to the phones full value (incidentally the wait was mainly due to Orange sending a proof of purchase and not the fault of Lifestyle Group). LG have offered me a direct cash offer of £485 for my lost iPhone - AFTER the excess payment of £30. The excess for Smartphones is due to rise in November 2011 but stands between £30-50 at present.

One thing I will say about insurance claims is that these companies can usually recognise a genuine claim from a fraud looking to make a few £. If your story doesn't add up, they will know!

If you have a genuine claim to make & follow the steps I took, you should have no problems claiming with Lifestyle Group:

    1. Upon discovery of lost/stolen phone, immediately contact your service provider to block the SIM and/or phone. If you have insurance with your service provider they can handle that for you... Insurance companies generally ask you to report loss/stolen phones within 24hrs of discovery.

(Apple iPhone customers - I strongly advise you to contact Apple for further peace of mind. They can block iPhones using the IMEI number (which you can get from whoever supplied the phone or on the iPhone box) so that it will be useless to whoever has it.)

    2. Report your loss/theft to your local police constabulary straight away (DO NOT DIAL 999). Your local police will provide a crime/loss reference number and you will need to supply this to your insurance company within 24hrs of reporting it lost.

    3. Report to your insurance company. Be ready to provide details of crime/loss (including a thorough account of events). Have your policy details handy, your police reference number and if possible a proof of purchase to support the claim. They will advise on the steps to take. LG ask you to download a form with your policy and claim references attached.

One thing that nobody ever mentioned to me was the registering of new IMEI codes to your insurance companies.

Shortly before I lost my iPhone, I'd had it replaced under warranty - thus giving me a different IMEI code to those registered with my insurance initially. This is what held up my application.

Should you ever need to replace your phone under warranty, immediately register the new IMEI with your insurance company to avoid delays in receiving either a replacement or a cash offer for loss/theft.

    I hope this helps?
  • Hi guys just got the 4S; any advice for a student wanting to finding the best possible deal but also wanting to get cover for my other Apple product Macbook Pro.

At the launch Protectmybubble were promoting their insurance which is really cheap £6.99 per month but after a quick google search reviews do not seem that good!... also looking quickly over this saw a few bad comments about them as well.

Would you recommend me taking out contents insurance and include my phone under it been recommended Endsleigh 13.50 any views on this company?

    Cheers
    Jake

Have you considered home contents insurance instead?

NatWest silver account charges £8 a month and includes mobile insurance, the excess is £50 (£100 for iPhones) and you also get love film and music download from hmv, experian credit file checks and European travel insurance.
