I have based all the formulas on those used by Martin, in this case it's
    weekly_value * (total_weeks/total_months) or "* 4.33"
  • ???

Am having a little trouble with the mortgage line of the spreadsheet.

When I add in my monthly payment if £565.15 in column A.........it strangely works out my monthly mortgage expense in Column B to be £2447.10.

This obviously throws the calculations out by almost £2000.

Why is it doing this and what can I do to rectify it? ???

I've double checked the Spreadsheet which is currently available for download from the website. Section A consists of 3 columns they are: Weekly, Monthly & Annually. It seem's that you are entering your monthly figure in the very first box to the right hand side of the Mortgage / Rent text, which is actually the Weekly column. Delete this figure and then insert it into the Monthly column to resolve the problem.
  • Excellent calculator thank you.

One thing I have noticed is that if in Part A you put a combination of values in for each type of spending (i.e. per week, month and year) - as is sometimes relevant and as the notes say you can do - then the Part B Monthly Total does not add up the total but only counts the 'per week' cell.

Mmmm, can I just say that like the online version & at Martins request this has been specifically designed to allow you to enter either weekly, monthly or annually figures for each expense.

When it states that you can mix the entries this means that you could enter "Weekly" for say shopping & "Monthly" for a mobile telephone bill & "Annually" for car insurance.

If you have 2 cars with seperate insurance's you will have to manually add these up and add them to the column of you choice.

It will fail if you enter Weekly, Monthly & Annually on the same line.

Hope this clarifies it's workings more clearly.
  • Thanks Tony, i will do manual calculations to make sure only one column is used for one item.

    Hi

You can download a free excel viewer for peeps that do not have the full verison of excel.

    You can get it at

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=4eb83149-91da-4110-8595-4a960d3e1c7c&displaylang=en

Would the free office suite not be able to handle that spreadsheet?
    You can find it at:

The new spreadsheet is Version Number 15.07.2004 I am sure Brendan will let you all know when it's available.

The most important fix in the new version is that it has been "Digitally Signed" which will address the opening / security problems that some have been experiencing.

I have just downloaded the new version but it is still saying it isn't digitally signed. I just looked on this thread for solutions to the problem but then found your post saying that it has now been digitally signed. I have followed the previous posters advice about changing the level to medium, then closing and re-opening the spreadsheet, and then you can choose to enable the macros, which I have done and it now opens, but I'm concerned now as I thought this shouldn't happen now.

Would really appreciate your advice. I am using Microsoft Office XP Pro

    Thanks

I've down loaded the Budget Spreadsheet but cannot open the zip file.

Winzip reports the archive file is corrupted. Any ideas or help out there?

Has anyone else encountered this already?

(apologies if this has been already chatted about, I don't have time or brain power left to read the last 9 pages in this tread)

Many thanks in advance for any help or explanations.
The only stupid question, is an unasked question ...
