My idea of gardening is producing lots of colourful flowers, but DH prefers gardening you can eat, so as our garden isn't big enough to have flower beds and a vegetable plot, he grows veg in tubs - peas, runner beans, tomatoes, and he's trying beetroot for the first time this year. I've got absolutely no idea what you do with a raw beetroot, so I'll have to do some research when they're ready for harvesting!

Raw beetroot can be grated and used in salad or mixed with horseradish to go with salmon. Best thing to do though is keep the tops and tails on them, wrap them in foil and roast them and then serve them either hot or cold with your dinner :rotfl:, they go well with both meat and veggie dishes!Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup

100ml of ice cream would be 20 teaspoons roughly. When you take medicine you have a 5ml spoon.
Hope that helps.

Thanks FFM, so do you understand why 100ml or 45g of ice cream is 84 cal - but when I measure 100ml of ice cream, it does weigh 100g, not 45g?
I get that I have to do (84/45)*100=186 to get the REAL calorie value of 100g (which is still 100ml according to my scales). I am confuzzled.0 -
Well I am back after a very busy week
at work! eating good stuff now as its starting to show. Went to the gym for the first time today  and boy I was sweating like a pig on a hot day (shows how unfit I am). Ditched all of the 42" jeans etc... and now in 40" jeans - my auntie (who is 2 years older than me!) said that I look different, asked have I lost weight - I should bloody hope so
:D
Working in and out of trailers this week with work giveing me the old workout, 1 hour per trailer (at times I had 2 trailers a day) - phew.
Weigh in tomorrow on the scales.... (no point today as I have eaten) is it best to weigh yourselves in the morning?

100ml is a volume whereas 100g is a weight. I would expect 100ml of icecream to have some air in it which is why is would say 100ml would ony weigh 45g. If you left 100ml of icecream to melt it would probably reduce down to approximately 45ml.
Just checked in my freezer and my tub of icecream says that a 40g scoop is 100ml.
A 100ml lump of icecream would measure 10cm x 10cm x 1cm or 125ml would measure 5cm x 5cm x 5cm if you want a cube.
Don't know if any of that helps?

Thanks FFM. So 100ml relates to the MELTED liquid ice cream and 45g relates to the UNMELTED weight? As that would give the same calorie value etc.
I get it nowBut I don't know why they base the nutrition info on 100ml when 100g would be more appropriate in my opinion
Although 186 would look a lot worse than 84 calories....
Thanks again m'dear!0 -

Probably why they do it, I remember weighing out 100g and thinking 'wow that's alot of icecream' and tucking in - it was only later that I realised that it was per 100ml.

Sorry Mick wasn't ignoring you there
I weigh in the morning before I get dressed, but any time is OK as long as the weigh ins are at roughly the same time of day when you do them
I used to weigh at midday cos I thought weighing at my lightest time of day was cheating a bit... but it became a pain stripping off at midday every week (I work from home usually btw :rotfl: )0 -
Hi again folks, just back from a late show of SATC.. boy I really miss that programme. It was nice to catch up with familiar characters again, Diet has completely gone out the window.
Thanks for the good wishes about DS pet and missyg - i have to admit, I don't know much about chickenpox but DS seems to have it really badly. He's got the spots all over.., his back, chest, hands, legs, feet, even through his hair - I mean everywhere and I don't know what else to do for him other than the medicine and lots of fluids. I have to admit, I'm not too worried about the plan for the minute, I'll get back on track when DS is coming around.
Probably won't be on much tomorrow/today, enjoy Fathers day...Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -

Thank goodness you put that last bit in missyg!
Oh dear, here I go, I've been dreading this.:o 1Lb gain for me this week though I'm not surprised as last week wasn't good for me. Still, with luck, I'll soon be getting at least that ONE off as I've been going hammer and tongs to do so.
Congratulations to all those who've lost and well done too to those who've stayed the same. Here's to a good week for ALL.
