PLG are you joining the runners then?? Thought the cycle was you thing? ;)

    Suggs,

Cycling is my thing - I was out on the bike today for 3 hours :D I went into the city centre (1.5 hours) around the shops (mum wants me to bring her back a pair of Pumas as she prefers the designs they sell here - plus they are much cheaper than the UK) then cycled back home (1.5 hours).

I'm quite chuffed with myself as when I originally bought my bike (4 years ago) it was merely for convenience not exercise. The 15 minute ride into work in the morning used to leave me a bit out of breath. However these days I'm going out for hours and whilst my legs feel a bit like jelly and I break a sweat I'm by no means out of breath - so I think that's a good sign that my health is improving!

I now feel like taking on the challenge of running as it's something I've always been rubbish at - however building myself up to it (following the routine detailed on that thread) makes 5km seem achieveable - even to a sloth like me! Plus I'm moving back home in a couple of weeks and my mum lives right next to a loch - great location for training!

I'll start when I get home. I bought my first pair of trainers IN YEARS today (I did have trainers in high school but they were purely for PE lessons - okay I admit it - I've been a sloth these past few years!) I got Nike Air Max 180+ they have a sensor thingie attachment that you can buy which feeds back your performance to your ipod

Anyone else fancy taking up running too? If I have to report back my progress to someone I'm less likely to give up!

5km run here I come! :rotfl:

Thanks for a link to that report Suggs. I heard ppl talking about it on Virgin Radio today (I listen online).

I knew that take aways were really bad in terms of fat and sugar (I used to work in the restaurant industy) however this part really shocked me:

"...naan bread contains more calories, weight for weight, than chicken tikka masala" I thought nan bread was okay!

Thanks for the article link Suggs. I always assume a meal out or a takeaway is the equivalent of a full day's normal intake for me (calorie & fat wise etc). What I found most alarming about that article is the bit about the pizza chains underestimating their pizzas fat content by 50% on their own websites! I never have takeaway pizza but does this mean we can't trust other published nutritional information....?

Nice avatar Petrichor :D Very eye catching. From a purely sporting perspective of course.

PLG, I'm relatively new to running and I'd be happy to buddy up with you? I know I have a slight head start (6 runs) at the moment but I have a holiday soon and probably another enforced layoff for a month or so when I have my operation, which would give you plenty of chance to catch up and more than likely overtake me. I'm sure you'll be doing 5kms very soon, you are obviously already extremely fit with all that cycling you do!

I've just scored 1797 out of 1800 on my Norwegian language test. Well chuffed :D

    ????

How come you can speak Norwegian and why are you taking a test in it? My SIL lives in Norway and the language seems so hard to even say nevermind understand! Not guessable like French or Spanish at all...

    Missy,
Well done on your language score :T I'm sure you're gonna be super chuffed with yourself after you successfully communicate with some of the locals in their language! Are you planning a visit or do you have friends that speak Norwegian?

I'm very happy to take you up on your offer - thank you :D I'm flying to London on the 8th - however it's going to take me a week to get to Glasgow as I'm sightseeing / visiting mates on route. I'll be good to go from Wednesday 16th July - is that okay with you?

As for overtaking you - ha! - that'll be the day! I've got years of sloth-ness to make up for :rotfl: - I'm confident that you are much fitter than me :p

Well Done Missy, what a top score. Guess your trying to work out what caused the failure to hit 100%???

Welcome Back Victory, Trust all went well, I hope for as good a match tonight as last night. Any notice Ajax has gone quiet, just after his beloved Holland got knocked out?? :D

PLG, I think any one of us are willing and able to buddy, we all offer different things, I have only just managed once outdoors, but train in the gym, whereas Missy is going for it in her own way around the park :)Efrieze I hope will still be heading to Richmond Park come September? So post to us all why dont you? I hope we can all push/motivate each other along. I hope so, I need to get outside again this weekend. Managed a straight 30mins on the treadmill today, (after 10min each on cycle and cross trainer) 3.4miles at average speed of 6.8mph. The big big thing is that I did not 'hold on' to the bar which I am mega pleased with. I hope to be able to do this more often. I do find the transition to outside difficult, I have my issues to deal with there. So PLG join in and post away :j

Yup - I signed up for the duathlon this afternoon. Off out on a mate's bike this evening to see how it feels.

    5km run - 10km cycle - 5km run.

    Oh my goodness!

Just to throw in for fun, another friend has signed up for a 10km run which I am tempted to sign up for too. Shoudl I go for both? Not sure...

Well done on the 3.4miles for 30 mins. That's a great time (a bit faster than my best, I think).
