alfie1 - you may like to re-post your query (443) as a new thread - go on to main HBR&S page and then hit "new thread" button up at top left. You'll get a better response from the main board
  • My advice is to first contact previous tenants so you have an idea of the landlord's general character.

    Hi everyone,

I'd really appreciate any help here, I have moved out of my flat today and my landlord has agreed to give me my deposit back. However - I have been on depositprotection and I can find no way of retrieving my deposit back or set this in process!!

Has anyone else done this recently? I looked at the FAQ's and it says that both myself and the landlord have to submit a Joint Deposit Repayment (JDR) either electronically or by post, but guess what! I can't find the form anywhere!

    Please help!

Hi Emily07 - welcome as a newbie  If you have any other queries it's best to start a new thread of your own straight from the main HBR&S board.

To answer your question, you or the LL should go onto the DPS website and start the joint claim off by logging in and then hitting "Request a Repayment". Follow the screen instructions - DPS then lets the other party know ( by post, text or email) that they need to also log in or complete a paper form and post back

Or either of you can simply request a JDR claim form - I think there is a specific request form to enable you to do so in the FAQs section( or possibly the douments section). If not just phone the DPS.
  • Hi all. This is Marc. Sorry I couldn't found any thread for my information. Renting and tenancy are the two topics regarding which a lot of people remain in confusion. The thing is that they just have the basic knowledge about this thing. Well, when I read out the very first posting, then many of the things got cleared to me. The points like "while getting in" and "while moving out" are quite informative. This is a perfect guide for the people dealing with the same.

  • Still amazes me how few tenants seem to take proper care with renting.
  • Hello

I am interested in renting a property through and agent who I thought was very brash and rude when I asked questions. They have requested a cash holding deposit of £304 (an odd amount?) Upon taking up of the rental, they refund £100 and the £204 is their fee. Is cash only a regular request? I wanted to pay by cheque.

I am out of practice renting through an agent, and I thought that the LA was rude and almost made me feel as though I was an inconvience.

I shall be renting the property immediately after friends move out. I requested confirmation that the rent would be the same and the LA advised that it was likely to go up by £25 per month. When I queried that it had only gone up recently (according to my friends), he refuted this and pretty much said that if I couldn't afford the new amount, then perhaps it wasn't for me.

    I feel disheartened...
  • Thanks for the great post, I found it really helpful and informative
  • Hi,
It is informative and very useful for readers to refer, but a bit lengthy. Any ways, thanks for the post, it seems like everything related to the subject can be found at one place.
