If this is the first period she has missed then sometimes that just happens, if it happens more than once she needs to get checked out. Is she ttc?

    Trying To Concieve = TTC

Is she on the pill or is she using any other form of contraception?
I'd buy a decent pregnancy test and do another test - sorry but I personally don't place much trust in cheap ones early on in pregnancy - clearblue ones tend to show accurately earlier on than most :)

definately not trying to conceive. Not on pill as it doesn't agree with her. Will pass on the other and let you all know how she gets on once she has purchased a decent p.testing kit.

thanks both. One other thing she just mentioned.

Her periods are normally 35 days, last couple of months been sweating a lot of feeling ratty and weppy. She has just turned 39, non smoker and quite well other than that.

She bought the sainsbury 2 for £4.95, after 2 minutes they should one line.

Sounds like it could be the start of the menopause.

When we where trying like robots ( lol ) we purchased the cheaper tests and they where always great. I missed a period by a day on my last baby and it was 100 % accurate. This was only £2.95 3 years ago.

yes but your levels of hormones might for some reason have been higher than hers... the more sensitive the test the better :) even if only to eliminate

Myself personally by listening to her over the last couple days does think so too. ( Her mum had a tiny bit of The change at the age of 38 , and then again at 49 years old ). She has also rang the doctors for an appointment this week. I will keep you all informed.

The hormone in your wee that the test measures... you might produce higher or lower levels than another person. Some tests have lower or higher sensitivity - as a general rule the cheaper tests require a higher concentration of the hormone to "react" and give a positive. Therefor a cheap test might have shown when YOU were pregnant, but if your SIL doesn't have as many hormones in her wee then she might get a positive with a test that requires less concentration of hormones per ml of wee.
So - not only will her hormone level have risen in the last few days if she IS pregnant but a more sensitive (and usually expensive) test should 99.99999% eliminate any question of a pregnancy.
Eliminate the possibilities to find the answer no matter how improbable it might at first seem - eliminating pregnancy is the easy one. After that my advice is to see a GP. Yes it could be menopause starting early - but no-one on here are doctors and we are not fit to diagnose ailments. Therefor she ought to see her GP.
