I tried the Homepride self raising flour today, instead of the smart price flour. What flour does everyone else use? (I have used the McDougalls Sponge Flour which I have found the best risen cakes so far with, but expensive).

I use McDougalls, Be-ro or Sainsburys own but I always mix in the sponge flour too. I put about a quarter sponge flour and three quarters normal self raising and this makes the cakes lovely!

DS's friend has been in the house every day this week even when DS is not here because his parents kick him out on the street while they go out and he has no where to go. I am getting sick of being used as an unpaid babysitter especially when I am not feeling very well :(

This used to happen to me when my daughters were smaller and it made me so angry!!! I couldn't get my jobs done because I had to watch what they were doing. As soon as my back was turned they would do something they weren't supposed to and something would get broken. I had to start being a bit forceful and, when they came to the door, telling them they couldn't come in (why did this make me feel guilty???). Sometimes though I had to lie and pretend we were going out (I actually went down the road to the local shop to make it look like I wasn't making it up!!!)

Taplady - I know just how you feel. A few years ago I worked part time for a bank and also had to work Sunday mornings (I didn't want to but was more or less made to!). I only did one Sunday in four, luckily, but on the particular Sunday that I did there was no one there that I knew. I used to feel a right Billy-no-mates and the time went so slowly. I tried to change my Sunday to a different one (it didn't matter which of the other 3 it was because there were people I knew well on all these Sundays) but the manager refused saying that I was the only one who knew how to do a particular job on the Sunday that I did! Thing was, it was so busy that I never got to do that job anyway! It made me so angry and upset. I hope it isn't too bad for you though Taplady.

    Thanks to you all!
I do love my job. its very rewarding so I'll be sticking to it. The boss did say to look at it positively:rolleyes: I suppose what makes it worse is that I've had 3 different partners(1 twice) since I've been there and also on my shift there are 2 people who work together and have never been split up - when they did try they kicked up a huge stink and the boss backed down as it was causing a bad atmosphere. I cant help feeling we're being taken advantage of. The changes cant be helped I know but it doesn't mean we have to like em!

I'm trying to look on the bright side as I know others are going through far worse. Thanks to my oldstyle mates for letting me get it all off my chest!:A

This is typical too! In all the places Ive worked this happens. My hubbie says its true wherever he's worked too. There are just certain people who the Management never dare put upon. They choose more amenable people to upset instead. Annoying!
  • Hi all, very late in posting

Various things have alerted my conscience as I have read the thread. (I had to laugh that my original word for Alerted has been edited. :rotfl: :rotfl: )

Kiwichick please see a doctor. Ears are not to be messed with.

Moggins My mother is 73 and the Grim Reaper will need to bring backup and a big stick to carry her off. :rotfl: Still, she confined herself to bed when she was struck down with labyrinthitis. She could not deal with the awful feelings it gave her. Get yourself sorted girl. ((hugs))

Skystar- Lanarkshire Lass as you are in my head - have a great night and report back.

Tootles As a Scottish Lass I can tell you that it is "Stooshie" where I grew up in Scotland, not "Stouchie". May have a different meaning where you live. Where I grew up a mess was called a midden and a simmit was a string vest. My DXH (not Dear to me I must add) grew up 15 miles from me but what I called a drain, he called a stank. So it's all relative. Wonder what other expressions OSer's have found to be strange with their OH??

Doddsy Please seek legal advice. It may cost you some money but it may save you much more in the long run.

Take care everyone. Seems there are so many OSers needing support here. Wishing you all the best and a win on the Lottery!

Moggins and MimiF-the drinks are on me!
Fab, I've started already:rotfl: Well, I've been making my damson gin for Christmas (or sooner;) ) and when I poured my 2 litres (!) of gin over the damsons and sugar it didn't all fit in my large le parfait jar so , as I didn't want to waste it....

Have a good Friday evening everyone and lots of :grouphug: to those in need or who are feeling blue.

Took a load of Spuds outgrown clothes to a local childrens consignment shop yesterday as I haven't had time to ebay them & this is a good way of supporting a local business which recycles. I was shocked that their commission rate was 50%:shocked: Anyone know if this is normal? Anyway, have given them a whirl, will seee how they sell.

hi have you tried your nct branch - (national childbirth trust) they run nearly new sales possibly around oct and the commission rate is either 40 or 30% so a bit better - and you generally get good price for things. and all gets sold in one day which is great!

PP your new bathroom looks great. Our friend who is going to fit our new bathroom has got some brochures for us to look at - I can't wait now!
Taplady - sorry to hear about the situation at work. Enjoying the compay of colleagues is so important. Hopefully you'll be able to take comfort from the fact that you have a job you love that obviously gives you a lot of satisfaction.
    LoubeeMine's a brandy & ginger beer, I've had 2 already but another won't hurt.:o
