  • [QUOTE=KazonlinePen Pen 'cwtch' is a welsh term for 'cuddle' - it's a far cosier cuddle than anyone else has :D It's pronounced as it's spelt c-w-t-ch.

Thanks, Kaz! Will add that to my Welsh Lexicon (Pembroke Dock, Tenby, toilet, slow,1-5, and griddle) Not much of a conversationalist in Welsh :rotfl:

Aussie, your jam. It needs to be boiled to a "set". Put a saucer into the fridge, and drop on a few drops of the hot jam. Cool for a minute, and then push the side of your little finger on the side of the jam. If it wrinkles (like you expect jam to be) it's done. If not, boil for a further 10 mins. PM me if this doesn't make sense. Once you've seen it you'll know what I mean. :D

Beachbeth, many thanks for that :A

The boxes are here!! I'm exhausted and I still have to unpack them yet. It will be like christmas finding all the stuff I haven't seen in a year. I must discipline myself and leave the 2 boxes of cookery books until last. I have to get them done before the kids come home as you can't move in the living room.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

    Morning All,

I always seem to make page 3, must be a Page 3 girl at heart. ;) DD's first day at school today, she was so excited, when she went in I had a little hiccup but she didn't look back!! Can't wait to collect her and hear all about it.

Work today, which is still busy, but thats okay, rather that than days dragging by. Haven't got anything in for dinner and house is a mess upstairs, may finish early today to get organised.

    Hugs to all in need.

Thanks Kaz & PPen. Since I've put one bottle in the fridge I've got to check it. It has jelled a bit IYKWIM so might be ok. I'll have it with toast in the morning and decide if I need to do a reboil. It tastes nice. First time I've ever made strawberry jam.

The sausages were nice & seeing as they were on special will grab some more tomorrow. I would get more strawberries except we have a mulberry tree which is chockablock of fruit. I won't have enough bottles for it all. Might check if you can freeze strawberries successfully first.

We didn't go for our walk after tea tonight again because it's blowing something awful here. Branches blowing off the trees etc.

Foreverskint Were the chelsea buns hard to make? I'm definatly getting more adventurous & confident since joining OS with my cooking skills. Once upon time I would have put certain recipes in the too hard basket thinking I'll !!!!!! it up. I've learnt even if I do I can turn it around into a edible accident. :D

Off to surf, haven't read many threads of late. Byeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Aha! (No!!!!! not the pop group MrsMH :D ). Strawberries are low in pectin (the natural gelling agent in fruit) so strawberry jam can be very difficult to set, especially if the fruit are damp or very ripe.

For next time: try to make sure your strawberries are underripe (I go to PYO and include some greenish ones - they absorb the juice, and are red when they're cooked). Lemon juice helps - does your recipe have that? I'' let you have mine, if you like. It's not foolproof, but French strawberry jam is "soft set" so that's what I often have. :D
