annie I would say something like you can't guarantee that you will always be available and rather than leave her children stranded you would rather she made other arrangements.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Hi all, hope your days been good so far....
Such a shame about Steve Irwin, I feel quite upset he was such a character and 44 really is no age at all. Think I'll raise a glass to him tonight.
I'm off work at mo so thought I'd have a cook off today whilst the kids were at school, quite surprised how much I've managed to do. Peeled masses of 'tatties' and made a huge pot of 'lobby' with 72 pence worth of minced beef. Boiled up a swede that I got for 16p reduced at Tesco with a bag of carrots and made a big dish of swede/carrot mash (love M & S's but refuse to pay anymore £1.99 for a small portion), stuck this in the freezer for another day. Also made a large casserole dish of cheesy mash to go with tomorrows tea. Then finally cooked some cheapy asda bacon offcuts, made a cheese sauce and jarred, ready to add to the reduced price noodles (31p) I got from tesco for the kids tonight (their fave). Total cost £3.49 (£1.20 worth of potatoes, swede, 16p, carrots 40p, cheese 70p's worth, mince 72p and noodles 31p and there is absolutely masses. And as a bonus spent not a sausage today-that feels good.
Anyway time to have some grub now....enjoy you evening allThanks to MSE and all the moneysaving tips I can now work PT (instead of FT) to pay the bills and still have fun!!:beer:0 -
mrsmortenharket - well done for not spending a penny today, wish I could say the same but just been to supermarket. Am also a big A-Ha fan!
Hey Annie Like you I always like to return a favour but don't like to be taken advantage of. However I find it hard to say no. Is giving the child a lift out of your way? If not I'd be tempted to keep quiet. However, I hate it when people take advantage. Try and find a reason you can only do the lifts a few times a week or think of something they could do in return.
Hex2 - you're where I want/need to be! Good to know MSE will help me get there!
thriftlady - dear son just had wraps for tea with carrot sticks and grapes - thanks for the inspiration - feeling like a good mum again!
Lillibet - why not sell some of the bits at a carboot and buy something for yourself or Spud?
Zed42 - Autumn pudding - yummy! Off to find recipe!
Bargain Rzl - great news that he apologised, I should think so!
Feeling tired. Home stretch to get DS to bed and make tea for DH - fajitas using up left over steak, chicken and a pepper.

Evening all,
First day back at work today after the 6 week break, nearly killed me when the alarm went off at 6.30!!!!
Done a load of washing, cooked tea, tidied up, paid some bills and took DD to the library. Was hoping for the Tightwad Gazette, but they hadn't heard of it ,and I am not sure whether to buy it as I have heard a lot of mixed reviews on it, especially being too american.
Snowy - Hope all goes well at the doctors tomorrow. The locums that I have had to see have been brilliant, and really listened and were easier to get a sick note off than my own GP!!!
Hugs to all those that need them, and hope the little oser's enjoyed their first days at school.0 -
It has been a very long and tiring day with the new head. We've been told what she expects of all staff (ie blood
)....... basically what the old head didn't do. At least we know where we stand. She has changed loads of things though, hopefully for the better. We'll see what the next term brings.
DH is busy working late, so I've just had beans on toast. I need to make sure that I make lunch for tomorrow before I relax (ie plan!).

DD and DH both loved my beef stew & dumplings
DD is a real fussy eater, and she's adding that one to her list of dinners that she likes
After the advice re boiling/central heating cover from :money: I've taken out a policy with npower for £15.60 per month - this includes boiler, central heating and an annual serviceSo I'm guaranteed a warm and toasty winter (hopefully). 2 years ago our boiler went "bang" on Boxing Day  We didn't get it fixed till February - so although we had hot water - we were b****y freezing
Just thinking of what to make for tomorrows lunch for DH and I - DD's not back at school till Wednesday so she'll be at the childminders.
BTW Good luck at school tomorrow Miss Penny Pincher
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0 -
Annie: I had a situation similar to this a few years back, now im not one to see someone struggle but i find that once you do someone a favour this favour becomes a burden.. IE my daughter was ill and i was made to feel like i was letting her down. My dd walked home but this woman still expected me to go up the school and fetch her dd. In the end i said i was sorry that i couldnt help her but like moggins says i couldnt guarantee being there everyday..
What happens if your dd wants to go home with a friend that means you have a wasted journey. Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0
