Thanks for the welcome Moggins. I've loved working part-time (best of both worlds) but wanted to spend more time looking after DS and DH (DH needs more looking after!). Bit scared about lack of adult company/conversation but loving home cooking/baking (despite plum jam failure - I've not yet recovered) and making a home.Punky x0

You did say 12th Moggins, not that I'm checking off the days or anything...Punky x0

afternoon everyone.
First day back wasn't as bad as expected. A bit dull because there were a lot of meetings, and strange as so many new colleagues. The hardest bit was sitting on hard chairs again which didn't do me much good. I might end up having to take my comfy cushion in with me.
I am quite shocked about Steve Irwin. Thanks pen pen for the link. What a way to go. At least it would have been really quick, and he was doing what he loved. His poor family though. His kiddies aren't that old. We were only watching him on the telly yesterday.
Welcome punky - join us here. All standards of desperate housewife are made to feel very welcome.
Brzl - what a horrible end to your evening. I'd blame it on the booze. Still not nice.
Hugs for ticklemouse.
snowy - glad you have sorted out your appointment. It totally reminds me of how i was a few months ago. It could totally be the cause of your poor sleep, and lack of energy for doing things. While you are off work, set yourself a target or two every day, and reward yourself. E.g. make your cake, reward with bath or choccies or wine. I've found this helped. Plus making myself have a bit of a routine. What is your sick pay like? I could have 100 work days on full pay, which was a big help.
vicky - hope the first day back wasn't too stressful. Keep your head down and just do what you need to if the boss is bad. Don't get involved in the inevitable back-stabbing and politics.
pen pen - i think i confused you with my post this morning. It's not my child i am worried about. It is the ones that i teach that i always dream about misbehaving. It's a back to school thing i don't grow out of.
going to have a nice cuppa and scone, and then mark some of that coursework i had still not managed. Now i have a table to sit at there can be no more excuses.

afternoon each,
I havent been on for a few days as we have been busy.
Yesterday we spent all day at the late FIL's ,sanding and cleaning so BIL can decorate before the house is sold. It was really awful a couple of weeks ago including cat pong from years before ,nicotine staining everywhere and no real housework having been accomplished there in years. Anyway we have spent 2 full days there with other IL's and it is much better. We salvaged late MIL's hoover which was 'broken' and going to the dump and I managed to mend it in about 30 mins once I realised a spring had become misaligned. Its much better than the little vacuum we have .
Today I dug potatoes for storing. It is quite hard work and I still have 4 rows left to dig but they'll have to wait. Last week we had to buy a new washing machine as the 'old' one (5 years) began leaking aswell as the machine-gun noise it had developed when spinning.I dont think we have had one last longer than just over 5 years ever. Luckily we have our emergency savings to cover it,so it wasn't a disaster.
Tomorrow the kids are both off to college and i shall be in the house alone for the first time in 9 years.
Right off to start on tea which will be stuffed marrow inspired by this site.
all the best

Hi Punky, thanks, I am quite in control actually
but kitchen things take precedence over cleaning etc. i don't normally make lunch box menus, but I'm making an effort as I've got snazzy new (expensive) lunchboxes for all my kids + OH. I'll add the menus to the packed lunch thread if they're successful at the end of the week.
Just been reading the rest of this thread and can't remember what everyone's been up tobut :grouphug: to Ticklemouse and to Bargainrzl re XBF.
Also shocked but not surprised to hear of Steve Irwin's death. My boys will be sad. I've been saying for years that he would get himself killed0 -

Hello again!
Where on earth has the day gone? Sorry, if you are at w**k and the day is dragging!
I have just taken some Parkin out of the oven (had to steal a bit, too!) I've made Gingerbread before but never Parkin. The recipe was on CountryFile - Summer Diaries last week - did anyone watch these programmes? I thought they were great and each one had some really good recipes as well.
Glad that you liked the poem - someone sent it to me a while ago and it is quite appropriate sometimes!
I'm just waiting for an email from the solicitor as I sent a rather sharp one to her earlier today! I'm having loads of problems with selling my mother's cottage - something that isn't in the Deeds.
Better start thinking about this evening's meal, I suppose.0
