Hi everybody, thanks for the messages of support! Guess what - XBF has ventured AN APOLOGY!!!! (So there is a first time for everything! Lack of past apologies is one of the many many reasons he is my XBF rather than my BF. And believe me, even if he's turning over a new leaf, an XBF he shall remain!)

Oooooh, I think my paragraphs are functioning too - today is definitely improving!

    ((((hugs)))) to Ticklemouse :)

    Afternoon everyone

(((hugs))) as needed or wanted;) & welcome Punky:j

Been clearing out my great aunts house in south London all day, only 7 more rooms to go:rolleyes::p The good news is that we get to bring home lots of goodies, the bad news is most of them we don't have room for:rolleyes: Got a much needed chest of drawers for Spuds room, a pre-war set of scales & hand mincer, and some replacement wine glasses as I tend to be very heavy handed with them after a glass or 2:o

Loads of stuff to go to charity if we can't find people who want it. I find it very disheartening that so many people refuse 2nd hand goods:mad: when there is nothing wrong with them.

Haven't seen any TV news but had the radio on all day & keep getting the sad reports about Steve Irwin. I am really upset, don't know why as I've never been to Oz & am totally phobic (full on panic-attack, breathing-into-a-paper- bag type phobic) about snakes, thing is he was so passionate & enthuastic about wildlife that I would try to watch him just out of respect for the bloke.

Spent some time at the weekend picking wild fruit; plums, apples & blackberries. I have a odd idea about making a kind of autum version of a summer pudding for Xmas with them. Anyone reckon it would work?

    Have a good day everyone:T

In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!

There is a recipe called "Autumn Pudding", which I believe is pretty much the same as Summer Pudding, only incorporating the fruit you mention above ... yum :)

    Hello Punky,

I am on my third year as a SAHM, but since last year I have also worked two days a week as I was going mad with two small boys. I started off not being able to cook at all, and with a wildly out of control food budget and with a tip of a house as I had just finished ultra high pressure job. With a lot of help from various posters on MSE I have finally got as much of it under control as I can manage including developing the myth that I am a good cook around the family. I regret nothing.... well apart from checking that there are no pens within reach!

    Hi all,

Architect is here, measuring all the rooms, including DS' bedroom aka the pit:eek: . I just rescued 3 of my best plates from his floor but couldn't do much about the rest of it, will get on his case again tomorrow.

He brought me some posh chocs last night because of the support I've given him this summer:D . I must try to ration them:rolleyes: .

I do wish I could stay at home (although not a mum as children grown). I enjoy my job and its only 10 minutes walk from home and it's an informal sort of flexy arrangement on the hours, so I couldn't do any better but I would give it up like a shot if I could afford it. Saying that DH has worked out he'll be best off retiring at 58 which is only another 7 years and if he retires I certainly will (at 56), must try not to wish my life away though.

  • Hi everyone and welcome Punky

First day back at school went fairly smoothly. It was also my first day back at work after two weeks' holiday. Boss was out of the office today so me and his wife spent most of the time catching up on what had been happening over the last month. Still managed to get lots of work done though, so don't feel too bad about all the chatting.

Can I ask for your opinion on a matter please? When my DS started high school he helped a fellow pupil out by buying him lunch when the lad lost his dining card and couldn't pay for lunch. The lad's mother (by way of a thank you, I think) gave him a lift home from school to my DDs primary school, where she also has a daughter attending. She continued to give him a lift for the next three months. I then got my car and felt it was only right that I should offer to do some of the driving. However this turned into me doing the driving four days out of five. Now DS has just had his first day in Yr 9 and the mother has asked her mother to ask me (can you follow this???) if I can pick them up all five days now. Am I being taken for a mug?

I would gladly help anyone who genuinely needs it but feel that I am being taken advantage of here. I don't want to cause an atmosphere between DS and the boy and it is only for this school year as DD starts high school next year so I won't need to go near the primary school. Should I just keep my mouth shut and grin and bear it? Your opinions would be appreciated.

((((( hugs ))))) to all those having a cra**y day and those who could just do with one.
