  • Hi Snowey, thanks for the suggestions, I do rent a room out which helps a little, though some of our tenants have been a nightmare, lol. Yes berkshire is an expensive area, but at 54, I'm lucky to have a job & if i move away, I may not find another one.
Unfortunately none of our local housing associations are prepared to help, as I do not fit their criterior (sp).
    Thanks again

Hi Everyone! (((((HUGS))))) to anyone who needs them esp. Hester, Smashing Blouse and Dobie.

WM has been on 3 times today! I hadn't got myself organised enough with the weather to be able to do a wash and then hang it out! But it wa the final straw with the mountain getting just too big! So the clothes horse has come out and every available space on radiators is used! Weather looks better tomorrow so will do the final 2 loads then. The only problem after that is the blessed ironing!! At least there's football on this week which I can iron to!

Also tried out the steam cleaner on the grouting in the bathroom. Got another property inspection on thursday - another down side to renting!! But the cleaner didn't work brilliantly, so reverted to good old fashioned elbow grease and bleach! not perfectly white but a lot better!!

Have been very cheeky in saving electricity and water this weekend! Mum and Dad are away and we've popped in yesterday and today to feed the fish and pick up the post, but yesterday we decided to have our tea here (raiding the freezer too!) and today I'm on their computer! he he!! I'm sure there'll be a moan from them at some point, but at least their fish are being fed! And we're able to help ourselves to walnuts and apples from their trees. A shame the blackberries are well passed their best now!

Hope everyone has a good rest of the weekend. DH and I are mystery shopping at a local pub tomorrow, so another free lunch plus £5 for our objective views on the food and toilets!!

    Hi again

Smashingblouse - enjoy the rest, & seeing DH doing all the work!
Learningtosave - well done on those finds!
Hester - (((hugs))) that is a difficult one, isn't it. It seems that finding a cheaper property to buy if possible would be the best option, because rents are at least as high as mortgage payments, and while mortgage rates can go down as well as up, rents only ever go up. And they never end. But as you say, finding a cheaper property is not that easy. I hope you are able to find the right solution.

This morning I was feeling down cos of our car problems. Our friend the mechanic managed to sort it all out, so we have been and ordered the new car. Hopefully we should be able to save quite a bit on running costs. I estimated that the car should "pay for itself" within about 3 years, factoring in fuel savings, cheaper tax and insurance. These savings mount up to the extra amount we will need to pay above what we will get for the landrover. And I will be able to transport other people about - for example it is not easy to get my disabled 97-year-old grandma into the landrover! She climbs up on a stool to get in, but is finding this more & more difficult - understandably! And my MIL also finds it a bit tricky, too. As we have 3 [STRIKE]elderly [/STRIKE]widows in the family (actually, my mum at 69 & MIL would dispute the "elderly" bit!!!) who have no transport of their own, it is important that we have a car that is practical for them as well as us.
But the landy is fun to drive!!

  • Yes, same here, very chilly, but like you we are putting on extra layers rather than putting the heating on. Lets hope we get an Indian Summer!

  • well my flooring is now complete, and i can hear lots of banging which i take to be skirting boards being put on. I am with one of the cats on the bed still, and he's taking up all the room.

I have semi-got my work head back on. I have spent about 3 hours doing my annual performance review, which, because of my 5 month absence and special measures, i haven't done anything towards, so i have had to be very creative. Hopefully, as i had a good meeting in July, it shouldn't be a problem. I don't know what they will expect me to set as targets, as i will only be working the 20 days (2 of which are training days) before my maternity leave. Scary stuff. So i have done my best.

vicky Ado you have to do this annual review too or is it just my school? It is a pain as i spend hours on it, and then other members of my department knock something up in 10 minutes on the first day back, usually pinching my exam analysis. Grrrr.

Hugs to hester. Have you tried doing things like surverys on the internet? I know it isn't regular money, but i have had a few pound from doing that this year. I know there is also the pigsback thread which again, i get boots vouchers from, so i don't have to spend as much. Also, could you consider doing some mystery shopping? I know ticklemouse and catowen do it. can't remember who else. I think whatever your income, we are all here because we have a worry about money. Any little bit you can do would help.

I think i'm ready for a tea break, and then i may brave the coursework. I've been putting it off as it is very depressing. I'm used to poor coursework from single science kids, but i have been teaching double science this year and was hoping for much better. I should have saved my energy.

    See you all later.

    Hi sammy_kaye18,

It's not too cold here, but it's been raining all day! :(

The best place to have a chat with other Old Stylers and find out what we're all up to is the daily thread, so I'll merge your thread with it. The posts are listed in date order, so you'll need to read from the beginning to catch up with everyone.

I haven't heard about it _pale_ _pale_ but our last head was dire, so I'll find out about it on Monday - our first training day with the new "Acting" Head... she's already pretending that she's the full time head.

I got a text from a member of the Senior Management Team yesterday, who had been in a meeting all day with the new Acting (as of yesterday!) Head. Apparently she's already changed alot of things for next term - where children are going to be, who is going to teach what. I'm a little worried, especially as we'll probably be having an HMI inspection the following week _pale_
