Ah! Someone else who knows how it feels....... we're currently watching the motorbikes on tv as we have to stay in, though we did manage pop into town this morning to pick up a paper! He's not on call tomorrow, but is again next Saturday (he and a colleague have done a deal for these next two weekends). Not overly impressed, but at least he then won't be on call for a good few weekends again!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
Good morning all
I'm sure this isn't the right place to post this, but I've reached the end of my tether & wondering if anyone has any suggestions.
As I have said before my hubby is partially sighted & finds it very hard to get work. We have just had a letter from the tax man, it seems the last job he did, although he was stopped tax, it wasn't passed on to the tax man! It's not a huge amount & I'm happy to explain the situation to them & hopefully be given time to pay.
I really can't carry on any more & think it would be best if we sold our house as we can't afford to pay the mortgage & I feel it would be better to sell it than have it repossessed. We have £44 (from the chat line work) to feed us both for the coming month & I'm tired of living this way.
I had to get a 3 bed house when I was divorced as I had children to house. they are now all grown & flown, but as we have an ex council house it was cheap. The problem is, the small amount of profit we will make will be swallowed up by selling fees. We are happy to downsize but can't find anything to buy for £100k which is what we will have left and if we rent how do i pay the rent when I retire? So where do we go from here? Does anyone have any ideas?
Sorry this sounds like a whinge, but I really do wonder where I'm going wrong.
Hester

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions, but just wanted to give you a virtual hug.
Why don't you post your housing query on the houses board? They're really helpful on there.

Have finally sorted through the boxes in L/R and now have a box of items to list on amazon/ebay. I've posted the question on the amazon thread, but does anyone on here have any idea as to wheather (and if so how) you can list an item on Amazon that's not in it's listings? (Sony Megadrive games)

Thanks Vicky & Kaz
I know everyone is in the same boat, I just get fed up some times, especially now when the only light at the end of the tunnel is an express train coming towards me, lol.

Hi Hester...what a nightmare for you, big hugs!
Would you and DH consider moving to a brand new area? I notice from your avatar that you live in Berks, which is one of the more expensive parts of the UK. A browse around https://www.rightmove.co.uk might help you investigate. I'm sure you'd find a decent property for £100k or less if you shop around. Your fees don't have to be megahuge either - you can negotiate hard with estate agents, they are after all in competition with each other. I have heard of people doing their own conveyancing - maybe it's not something you fancy, but it's something you could look into before dismissing the idea.
What about shared ownership via a Housing Association? Maybe they favour 1st time buyers - but again, if you phone lots of them you might find one which will consider your circumstances.
Final suggestion - you could possibly rent a room or two in your house, perhaps to students from abroad. I suggest this because (as far as I know) there is assistance available for those who come over to teach English at universities or schools for a year, so that should be a reliable arrangement. If there is a teaching hospital within reasonable distance then student nurses might be grateful for a room at yours.
LearningToSave...I am green with jealousy now, what fab finds in the charity shops, no wonder you are a happy bunny!
