We didnt have to go to the football HURRAH!!!! DS was dissapointed tho, but it is nice not to have to stand in a muddy field.
Mind you, it is raining cats and dogs at the moment and we do need to go into town for the school shoes, so hopefully it will calm down later.

    Good morning all

Sorry too many posts to reply to all, as we are a bit busy here at the mo, but special hugs to Dobie & DS.
Aussielass, hope you had a good dinner.

Raining here, & DH, BIL & mechanic friend are out looking at the car. Someone came last night & put a deposit on it, but when they took it out for a test drive they did something to the 2nd gearbox & caused a problem. This is very awkward, cos we can't use it as it is, but they might not want to pay full price for a car which is damaged, even if they caused the damage. I don't know what we can do about this situation.
We were so happy we had sold it, at pretty much the price we wanted, & were looking forward to going out today to order a new car.
    It is a bit frustrating!

    Have a good day!

    Hello everybody,

Had a lovely meal last night and DD decided to make hamburgers tonight so have been let off twice in a row. Tomorrow's night tea is sweet curry (leftovers in freezer) on toast. :D How lucky is that. The band that was playing at the club was so good. Didn't get up to dance, need a few more under my belt first. ;) Had a go on the pokies, put $2 in and won $3. Woohoo I made $1. :p

Been running around this morning and did YS tax this arv. I will make sure it's right tomorrow before lodging it on Monday. I've been helping  DH with the retainer wall this arv. Very refreshing especially when the showers arrived. I should tell him I expect wet pay.

Dobie I can only imagine the heartbreak this has caused you over the years. I don't think anything other than him to stop drinking will make life any easier for you. My heart goes out to you. You are doing everything you can do (((hugs)))

Joannesmum Paying off the mortgage early is a good idea but don't stress about it if you can't. It's good to clear the air at times.

VickyA I Loved Walked the Line too. I'm seriously thinking of buying a dvd of it for home use as it's one of those one's that you can watch over and over again. He had an interesting life hey.

Cat I left my washing out tonight as it was still damp. Guess what it's doing now. Yes it's raining. :D

Off to have a surf. Have a great Saturday everyone and hugs to those that need them. Byeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

  • Morning all ! <yawn> Bad night, so slept till 10.30, and I'm still in my jimjams. Sorry, I haven't read all the posts yet. I'm doing nothing again today except feed the kitties and wash up. I did intend going to work with Justin to pick all the free fruit around his offices, but now I'm glad I didn't. I would have had to sort it all, and I'd have wanted to cook, which I daren't do today. I MUST rest else I won't be able to do anything all next week. Frustrating, but necessary.

I might push myself to finish the baby shawl (border left to do) for bro & sis-in-law whose baby is due this month, but the pattern is so darn awkward I've already re-done the border three times. Not looking forward to it.

Off for a shower now, else you'll all be wondering where the smell came from!

HUGS to all those that need them today,
    Jo

    Hello everyone!

I've been asleep, on and off, since about six o'clock yesterday evening. I suppose that is more than slightly disgraceful, but I was so stressed yesterday, all I wanted to do was hide under the duvet. I feel lots better this morning - I know in my head it's time to pack that awful job in - though I've got to get something to tide me over in the meantime. I think I could manage fine on Sainsbury's wages - my current job doesn't pay particularly well anyway, so while it'd be a drop of a few hundred per month I can juggle things, tighten my belt Old Style and Tightwad Gazette style and not notice the difference. I've got to do it, that place is far too bad for my mental health to want to continue there, and it certainly is not worth a few extra pounds each month. Thanks for all your words of support yesterday, and today, I am needed the reassurance that leaving is a good and positive option.

Dobie...I thought you were a young slip of a thing, so when it dawned on me that you've got adult children I was rather surprised. Regards your older son, I can only reiterate what others have already said, what you are doing is about the best you can under the circumstances. At some point he will come to understand that he's not managing on his own and needs some help, whether that is from his mum or from some other source. Have you got any support for yourself? Some years ago I had a boyfriend with a drink problem, and tracked down a charity called Al Anon (if I remember correctly). They are specifically for family and friends of alcoholics. If I've got the name wrong I'm sure someone will correct me - if you haven't sought their advice before, perhaps they could give you some ideas on how to deal with the situation on an on-going basis. I really feel for you - you can see what needs to happen, but your son is simply doesn't want to face stopping drinking right now.

Amanda666, I'm a cat woman too - I've got two furbabies. They were dancing around this morning trying to persuade me to let them out. So I trundled off downstairs and opened the back door - they shot out, realised it was raining and shot back in again. Ahh but I love them anyway! I hope your new job starts to offer you improved job satisfaction as time goes on, but best of luck in it anyway.

Hi to AJR and MarkMc999, very nice to meet you both!

Happy Saturday to everyone, even if it's wet and horrible where you are like it is here.

    Hi everyone,

Several of the posts have struck a chord this morning.

Dobie, what a horrible situation for you and DS, I'll be thinking of you.

PP Hugs to you and DD too. I know my DD worries about my health, which upsets me. I coughed when I was talking to her on the phone last night and she immediately jumped on me about it.

Joannesmum, I remember what a strain those times were, marriags can be a hard slog at times in order to reap the rewards.

Moggins, you just want to gather her up and protect her like you would have when she was little don't you? It's horrid to see you're children suffering and not be able to help.

Finally to everyone who didn't sleep well last night big hugs. I seem to be accumulating fluid all day and hten spend my nights waking to go to the loo. I went 6 times last night and I weighed myself before I went to bed and first thing this morning and I'd lost 4lb.

Going to have a lazy day today with OH in Istanbul and after a hectic week.

Morning everyone, just finished watching Saturday Cooks so am now going to get myself showered and dressed. DH is up at the dentists in the village having his one of many dental treatments this past year..

Then we are off to do the shopping via the farm shop for the eggs, drop prescriptions off at Dr's surgery and then to Asda. I am hoping to reduce the shopping bill this week (fingers crossed!) and to purchase my first ever bottle of stardrops.. :)

Also have to do the dreaded housework this afternoon, either that or I will spread it out in the week as I normally do..lol

  • Hi all I'm a newbie to this forum spent the last couple of days reading everything. Got Stardrops, Starclen and microfibre cloths yesterday and started cleaning this morning. Between these and flylady I seem to have got the cleaning bug. Allowing myself half an hour for a bit of cleaning, 1/2 an hour for decluttering and 15 mins. on computer as reward. Will it last??????

    Good Morning!!

The meeting of the parents last night went well!! The food was delicious and not overly expensive - it came to around £30/head including drinks (bottles of wine!!) Everyone came back to our flat afterwards and my dad, the only one who hadn't been round before, was shocked, and just kept saying "how can you afford such a nice place? when I was your age I lived in a complete dump!" And my future MIL commented a few times on how clean and tidy everything was :D  :D So I guess I passed that test

Plan for today: I need a new iron and some curtains for the lounge! My iron exploded on me yesterday as I was ploughing through a huge pile - I just hid the stuff I hadn't done under the bed when the parents came round :o :rotfl: I was planning on having a lie-in this morning but the Jehovah's Witnesses came a-calling at 8.30

Dobie - (((hugs))) It sounds like a complete nightmare with your son. He is very lucky to have somebody as caring as you for a mother, but you need too protect yourself aswel

Penelope Penguin - your description of your FIL's attitude to computers made me :rotfl: my dad is exactly the same

Amanda666 - enjoy the gardening show

    twink - enjoy the party!!

FunkyFairy - Glad yesterday wasn't too traumatic. I only ever catch up with relatives at weddings and funerals and I always think it a shame but it's just that everybody is so busy that even when we say "We really should do X sometime" we never get round to it...

    ageandjo :grouphug:

catowen - It drives me mad when I get to places to find they're cancelled/unexpectedly closed  Hope you get the shoe shopping done!

VickyA - My OH is an on-call techie too... Isn't it annoying!!! ps. It's raining here too and looks like it will be all day so don't feel too special :p :rotfl:

Tootles - have fun with your friend :)

anniebooklover - I hope you enjoyed your stay in Scotland - it's a beautiful country

joannasmum - :grouphug: Hope everything is OK with you and OH. Mortgages are scary things and big debt but much preferable to renting which is effectively throwing money down the pan each month

Kazonline - good luck with the cleaning!! Remember, one area at a time for 10 minutes each ;)

moggins - it must break your heart to see your daughter upset. I'm exactly the same as she is in terms of not wanting to be seen as failed - just keep being there and when she's ready she'll open up to you :)

LearningToSave - I would kill for a sausage sarnie and a cuppa right now!!

chipps - i hope you get the car sorted, it must be really frustrating!

AussieLass - don't spend your winnings all at once!!!!

Snowy - glad you're feeling a bit better today. Good luck with whatever you decide to do :grouphug:

ajr, tiredmum, seraphina - enjoy w**k *she types from her warm bed* :rotfl:

It seems to have taken forever to type this out so hello to everyone I cross-post with!!!!

    Happy Saturday :)

    Roz xxx

ps; I watched Thursday's episode of Anthea yesterday and the pink apron she wore in one of her "domestic wisdom" thingymajigs is identical to the one I got for my birthday!!!! Is it sad that I got excited about that? :o
