Evening OSers
Firstly :grouphug: for Joannasmum I hope the police catch the little blighters and recover your car. We've had a number of car thefts round here where the thieves put coat hangers through doors to get car keys situated near the door. BTW anyone concerned about things like this can contact your local police station and speak to your Community Safety Officer who can come round and do a home survey on your house and tell you how to avoid such horrors and make your home safer.
Feeling very smug and happy right now as I've successfully made jam for the first time (had plum jam failure last week!) :j :j :j :j
Thanks to all you OSers for recipees and tips.

Hello everyone,
I’m sorry I can’t say many individual ‘hello’s , as I haven’t had a chance to read the whole thread yet…..so please forgive me if I’ve missed anything important.
Snowy Now that you’ve done jam, you just have to try jellies…..as thriftlady says they look like stained glass windows.
thriftylady congratulations on 2000 posts :j
Joannasmum I’m so sorry to read about the car and keys being stolen, there are some despicable people about unfortunately.
Welshmum Sorry you’ve had such a rotten day
tootles At least you spotted the note and managed to get it changed.
catznine Thanks for the alert…….think I’m going to have to get a pukka pad before they’re all gone and hopefully while they are still reduced.
Punky I’m glad your jam was successful after the plum disaster
To the bemusement/pleasure of my husband and children I am becoming too Old Style for my own good…… I blame you lot for all the fantastic ideas you post!
As a result I’m completely shattered this evening and have only briefly glanced at the board today. I had hoped to join in with the back to school flylady challenge today, but it just didn’t happen, sorry moggins but I hope you’ll forgive me…..
Today I have made three different types of jellies, baked scones, made h/m butter, whipped 10 reduced cartons of cream for freezing, made a slow cooker casserole and a soup from h/m stock, picked more blackberries and rosehips...as well as all the usual everyday stuff including cleaning the kitchen after my exploits and supervising a six year old struggling with his homework while managing to keep the exasperation out of my voice.
I think it's time to pour myself a well deserved glass of wine and settle down to have a look at the board.

Joannasmum - mega hugs from all chez thriftmonster - this happened to a friend of mine - she was ironing in the back room and her teenagers were in but the cheeky b***ers just lifted her bag and a cash box from the kitchen - I don't know what you would suggest to do to them to make them realise what they have done - but I often get a very itchy hand at these moments:mad: “the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

Pink...I had psyched myself up to do some jelly today...the only thing I needed was some stockings. Sorry, but I simply could not bring myself to strain the fruit through a used pair of tights, no matter how well washed they were...think I would have felt very guilty if I had given the jelly to anyone to eat. So, I'll either have to buy new tights specially, or improvise with something else...does it have to be muslin cloth? Can I use something like big strips of cotton or old pillowcase or similar? Bet you're enjoying that wine Pink, you got so much done today, well done you!0 -
I'm embarrassed to admit to this snowy, but thanks to the glass of wine I'm going to anyway.......the stockings were brand new......22 years ago!
They were one of the spare pairs of gorgeous cream silk stockings that I had in reserve for my wedding day in case the ones I was wearing snagged. At least they've finally got some use, and I have now washed them and refilled with apples dripping for tomorrows jelly!
Now you can see why I need to do flylady! I am a terrible hoarder!

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: at Pink!! Pink you are so funny!! Well remembered about the stockings though...very MSE that you didn't buy stockings specially...0

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Joannesmum I hope they get your car back intact with your gear inside. I would definatly make a habit out of locking the door in future. Bet it makes you feel sick inside with what could have happened. (((((hugs)))))
Snowy You've made me think of jellies now. I was thinking of making some syrup type thing that you could pour over icecream in summer. Can't believe you haven't used your P**** Pad.
Tootles Are you saying you got some dodgy money from the car boot sale? That's awful.
Well it's not as rainy here this morning but very windy. First load in the WM, should get them dry if it stays like this. Going to make some fresh bread this morning as we are low. Hope this one is better than the last one.Have a good night's sleep everybody. You deserve a glass of vino Pink. You've made me tired and I've just got up.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Oh Pink! :rotfl: :rotfl:
You've gone some with the OS cooking - I can only dream of being as OS as you. Pink you rock! :cool:Punky x0 -

Hi Punky,
Unfortunately I don't rock.
I am just the same as everyone else on this board....
When I came to Os as board guide I enjoyed being a housewife and a mum and got a kick out of cooking, but that's all.
It's since I have been on this board that I have read so many posts on what the rest of you do, that it has given me the inspiration to have a go myself.
Believe me I've had my failures like everyone else....I will never forget the look on Mr Pink's face when he came home from work and I presented him with my first tray of homemade muffins.....and watched his face change from pleasure to mild irritation! I was so proud of myself and so absorbed in the task that I'd completely forgotten to make anything for dinnerThankfully he's a lovely understanding, darling of a husband....well he sort of has to be, to put up with me.
Today was not an average day for me........I think I possibly got a tad carried away!
Back to porridge (and cleaning and washing and kids and surfing) tomorrow!
Pink0
