  • Bargain, great news on your colleague. I hope everything goes well for her and she doesn't worry too much.

    Joannasmum,
if I were in your position I would offer the £100 to MIL. She is helping you and your DH by looking after DD and doesn't seem to expect your gratitude for it. Sounds like a very nice lady. Of course, the decision is yours, I'm sure you will make the right one.

It would be really nice of you to give your MIL the £100 towards her car insurance..... after all she does look after your little one for you.....see if you can pick up a panasonic cheaper from somewhere..........then perhaps you could squeeze out the money to do both?????

    Thanks Tootles and Anniebooklover
I know thats what I should do, just having a selfish moment I suppose, its so rare that theres ever any money left for what I want. Never mind its my birthday in October so maybe I'll get some money then

  • Morning :D

Just had a quick flickette through the threads from the last couple of days - I notice that TM & Nels spotted me on telly, but then they know best what I look like :D - I did get the impression that you'd have had to be looking pretty hard to see me, cos I don't really think there was a lot of camera coverage where I was standing. (Suits me!) I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought the conductor rambled on too much.
I did look out for you Bargain, I thought I might be able to recognise you from the pics I've seen, but I got completely distracted by that Dimitry whatshisovich - phwoar :D Why wasn't there a Britannia this year ? Sorry if this has already been covered, haven't had time to catch up today :o

Rule Britannia has been performed in a chorus/orchestra version for the last 5 seasons, but most people seem to wish it would go back to the soloist version - when I used to watch the Last Night on TV when I was younger the biggest climax would be what the soloist was going to wear :p The main reason it was changed is because Leonard Slatkin, who conducted the Last Night 2002-2004, decided that it should be - but now he's gone, everybody wants it back :(:D You can find much discussion on the subject on the BBC Proms message board (where, incidentally, I post under my real name): http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbradio3/F4187754

As for Dmitri Hvorostovsky - oooh, guess what, I met him! Before the concert I was stationed with three friends at the artists' entrance to pin carnation buttonholes on orchestra and chorus members, and he walked in (with his wife  :p) and stopped for a chat. Unfortunately I didn't get to pin on his carnation - cos the soloists have their own, left for them in their dressing room with a card that says it's a gift from the Prommers. Actually that's probably a good thing, otherwise me and my friend Karen might have scratched each other's eyes out over who was going to get to fondle his lapel :p I never used to "get" what women see in him, but since he's had his hair cut - NOW I get it :o

  • Ooh, you lucky thing Bargain :D

Thanks for that explanation, is it really that long since I last saw the last night ? I'm sure there was a Britannia last time I watched. I used to love going to the last night of the CBSO prom season many years ago- before Simon Rattle even (it was Louis Fremaux in those days). My dad is a massive CBSO fan, he's at Symphony Hall at least twice a week. I'm rambling :o

    Thanks again :T
  • Ooh, I've just noticed I'm 2 posts away from 2000 :D
  • Yep, you're gassing away ahead of me again :p:D

The day has suddenly gone seriously downhill. Some little f****r has walked into my house and taken my keys and nicked the car off the drive. I cant beleive it feel sick that DD and me were in the lounge at the back of the house. Dont care about the car but there stuff in there like afew of DD toys and the car seat plus my lovely buggy. Does anybody know if the insurance pay out in these circumstances the keys were in the kitchen on the hook. How dare people take what not theres we work damn hard for our money.
