  • I'm wondering about value loo roll though, and whether it's a bit of a false economy? I mean, is the value stuff so thin that you have to use twice the amount? And do you get more sheets to each roll of the posh stuff like wot the advertising bods would have us believe?? ;)

Once, back in my broke student days, I took on a part-time job in a chicken processing factory.

Horrible, horrible place - I lasted a week and couldn't face eating chicken again for about a month - but I did find out something interesting.

With the chicken breasts, they all come down a conveyor belt and you pack them into the tray so they fall between the weight limits. The interesting thing was that we were packing 'normal' supermarket chicken breasts into their trays, then they would change some of the people over to the value or ecomony range by giving them the different colour tray. The chicken did not change - exactly the same product was coming down the belt and going into the two different sets of trays, the only difference was the amount you would pay for them in the supermarket!

I always buy value chicken breasts!

Thanks for that about the value chicken breasts. I always worried that they were inferior in some way. Some tv programmes have said that 'old' chicken pieces are bleached and all sorts of horrible things. I also feel sorry for the chickens!
