Hello all I have been reading this thread for about two weeks..decided now is the time to join he he he. I applied for Cap 1 and after a lot of messing around and 2 applications later, I finally got the credit agreement yesterday.

That will be in the post tomorrow, now it is at the credit agreement stage do you think theres any chance of me now not recieving a card? Also on the agreement it says credit balance of £257.00, I think this means my starting limit will be £200, just thought I would share for anyone that doesn't notice it and like me can't wait for the card to arrive :)

    Congrats on getting the card.

I think you may be referring to interest charge (for example, say you borrowed £1,500, you will be charged £257 of interest). It is not an indication of your credit limit.

Capital One's initial credit limit range from £100 - £1,500. Most people's limit seem to start at £500, but this will gradually increase.

    Hello All

Just thought I’d offer a Recap

If you have stumbled on this thread (sorry club:D ) then you are already on your way to taking positive steps to rebuild a positive credit history.

This club is showing in many ways what you have to do and how to do it:T

The information on everyone’s credit reference files has got to be the starting point making sure all accounts are shown correctly and reflect there current status, in other words old defaulted accounts that are settled are marked as settled. You would be surprised how many accounts don’t get marked correctly and continue reporting poor payment history so everyone check your files!!!! The ICO (information commissioner’s office) can help if you get a stubborn lender who won’t update your files correctly.

Old CCJ’s make sure there marked as satisfied and for us Ex Bankrupts a discharge status is essential on our files.

The electoral role is becoming more and more important now when applying for credit as this is the first point of call for many credit providers to confirm your address and identity. Many lenders will not even consider you if your not on the electoral role. Rolling registration can be done anytime now just go to your local county council’s website and print of the forms.

A good starting point has got to be the sub-prime cards that we all talk about and discuss from the likes of Vanquis, Aqua, Cap1 and Monument (still not taking Apps?) The Limit you get is not important its how the account is managed is the thing to concentrate on. The Limit increase will come as a by product of a well managed account. I would still recommend paying the balance in full every month as the APR’s are generally on the high side on these types of cards.

If no joy can be had from the sub-prime cards might be worth looking at the big shopping catalogues like Littlewoods, Additions Etc .All I do with my account’s is spend £50 now and again and all report to the CRA’s a great rebuilding tool used wisely.

Store cards also worth a try managed to get the Burtons one which is run by GE Capital, which might be handy in the future as GE offer a lot of different finance products and having some sort of payment history with them might help later.

Contract phones as I’ve already mention in previous post’s also report to CRA’s.
My file was still in a right mess when I applied to “Three Mobile” but got accepted

Try not to make to many application’s in short space of time it can make you look a bit desperate and needy to lenders. Space them out and if all else fails just leave the apply button alone. Time is by far the best healer of a credit file.

Jump in if I missed anything Guys:D
