Hey guys!
I've been reading this thread for some time now and feel like I've been with you all through your trials and tribulations. So I simply had to join up and submit a post! Maybe you could do me a favour and answer a few questions to help me on my way.
Ive never had a credit card nor have I ever applied for a loan. Always felt it was better to pay my way. I dont even have a debit card! Little did I know that when the time came when I needed a credit card I would be refused because I had no credit history! How naive can you be! Also, standing in my way is the fact that I've just moved house and newly registered on the electoral roll.
So after reading your posts I decided to apply for a Capital One, a Vanquis card and Halifax Classic Card. Havent heard from Vanquis as yet(its only been 8 days!) but Capital One have written to me saying Ive been provisionally approved and all I need to do is confirm my identity. Well, I looked down the list of "approved documents" and unfortunately, I dont have any they request. I dont drive so unfortunately I cant provide a driving licence, but everything else they accept is either Inland Revenue, Benefits Agency or Local Education Authority! I havent had any dealings with any of those bodies in the last 12 months! Does anyone know why Capital One will not accept passports as ID? Its been confusing me.
Halifax also sent me a letter saying they had been trying to telelphone me over the last few days because additional information is required to assess my application, It cant be ID because I brought my passport and utility bill to my local branch and it was accepted. Anyone know what they would be looking? I'll phone them on Monday but a little advance warning would be helpful!
Also, how long do Vanquis usually take to process applications?
Phew, its a relief to get all that off my chest. Im so glad there are other people out there who understand just how frustrating and difficult the credit card market can be!0 -

Hi Sad Welcome
I’d give Cap 1 one a ring as there probably trying to confirm your address as the proofs they ask for should all bear your current address were a passport does not.
See if they will accept something else like a recent bank statement, council tax bill or a Tenancy Agreement as these will have your address worth a try any way.
Vanquis from first applying to acceptance for me was about 5 working days and then getting my card took about 10 working days again. I’d give them a call to see whats happening.

You know it’s just a matter of time mate, all comes to those who wait.
Did you try for a catalogue account with the likes of Littlewoods or Additions (same company) or even Next. All my catalogue accounts report on my CRF giving the good green stuff and they seem quite easy to obtain .Worth checking out these sorts of accounts as they all help build a positive profile used correctly.
Contract mobiles also report to the CRA’s had one with ‘Three mobile’ for a while now, cost's me about £15 a month on average which was cheaper than what I was spending on my PAYG month to month and giving me the benefit of another positive account on my file.0 -
hey whamy yes i have got a littlewoods catalogue they have just upped my limit to £400 so i know its a matter of time mate thanks guys sad there no way you killed this thread its unstoppable lol its a great threadyou cant change yesterdaybut you can make tomorrow better0
