Ok I am now banned from my local Tesco store.
The reason given was that I was deliberetly looking for misprices which is pretty stupid becasue I always buy the item in question almost every single visit.
They made countless other false allegations against me including suggesting I had been warned in the past.
The product in question had 2 different SELs (it wasn't meat). I was charged the higher price. In the past I have accompanied the staff to the misprice in order to help them. This time when i reported the misprice I noticed some strange head gestures between security and the member of staff going to fetch the labels - security then proceeded to stop me from accompanying the staff member to the misprice (not with force - just told me not to). Suprise, suprise - they only found the correct prices and the others had magically dissapeared! I was then allowed to see for myself.
Of course I can't be 100% sure said member of staff was commiting fraud, but I'm 99.99999999999999% sure.
On suggesting that the labels had been removed by a member of staff (I didn't say it was at all malicious) they then proceeded to inform me that I was banned from the store. I took the names of the staff members who were involved in the process.
I understand that MattOsprey has been banned previously (except he was not given a reason) and would appreciate advice from others on the matter.
TBH being banned doesn't bother me especially - it is the behaviour of the staff and the false allegations that annoy me more than anything.0 -

Hello ilikepoints-
First, what a rotten experience for you.
Now - dial 08005055555 for Head Office or/and send a Recorded Delivery letter to Sir Terry Leahy(full address via one of Joel's many excellent posts)
DO TESCO NOT REALISE THAT, IN BANNING PEOPLE WHO POINT OUT MISPRICING, THEY - APART FROM FLOUTING THEIR OWN POLICY - MUST IPSO FACTO BEDELIBERATELY SEEKING[/B]TO INCREASE TAKINGS/PROFITS BY THIS VERY OVERCHARGING?
Ignore corporate clone bullyspeak and ask yourself: What is another word for this?
What is it called if Mr/Ms Joe Public walks in to a shop and walks out with goods unpaid or underpaid?
What would happen if we all did this next time we went shopping?
EVERY SINGLE MISPRICE - EVEN FOR A COMPUTER - REFUNDED BY CS, IS CHEAPER FOR TESCO THAN A STATUTORY FINE PER ITEM AND CONSEQUENT BAD PUBLICITY.
Add to this the reports of your experience and those of others writing similarly here...
Equally, good service should also always be praised.
Both occur.
Tesco themselves could turn this round by letting it be known that it has happened - a gracious 'own-up' will ALWAYS merit a PR brownie point.
Finally - someone else may comment on the legality of a commercial agent preventing your freedom of movement. Just say No, I'll show you where it was/I'll come and check too, in case I was mistaken.
Better, take a pic on your phone and use said phone to ring HO as you stand there.

Once while previously being delayed by CS on purpose I offered to go and take a photo of the sign. They informed me that customers are not allowed to take photographs in store, so no doubt you can get banned for doing this also.0 -

Court fines Tesco thousands for misleading wine prices
24 November 2005
Supermarket giant Tesco has been fined thousands of pounds for misleading shoppers about the cost of its wine.
The chain was convicted of two counts of giving misleading price indications, and asked for a further 15 offences to be taken into consideration.
Liskeard Magistrates' Court, in Cornwall, heard how a trading standards officer found signs at stores in Truro and St Austell which falsely claimed it was cheaper to buy a case of wine than six individual bottles.
The promotional signs stated: 'Case deal. Always cheaper than six single bottles' and: 'Six for less'. However, for four wine brands, it was more expensive to buy a case. These lines have since been withdrawn from sale.
Magistrates fined Tesco GBP 2,300 for each count and ordered the company to pay almost GBP 4,000 in costs.
Tesco should be capable of getting prices right
Cornwall's trading standards department brought the prosecution. Its head, Dave Phillips, said: 'A company like Tesco, with its sophisticated IT and checking systems, should be capable of getting its prices right.
'The magistrates have given their judgment and this particular matter is now closed. However, we will be working with colleagues in Hertfordshire, who interface with Tesco's head office on behalf of all trading standards authorities, to ensure that a similar lack of control doesn't happen again.'
A Tesco spokesman said: 'We reduce prices on thousands of products each week to ensure the best value for our customers. Unfortunately, on this occasion we didn't adjust the case price to reflect the new lower single bottle price.
'We have reviewed our process and re-briefed staff to make sure this doesn't happen again.'
Earlier this year, we caught Tesco advertising bottles of Wynns Michael Shiraz on its website for GBP 9.75 each, but trying to charge customers double after they'd already ordered it at that price and received an order confirmation.
The company's small print says that if it has 'underpriced' an item by mistake, it can change the price as long as it informs customers before delivery. Although our lawyers concluded Tesco's terms were legal, we told it that its order 'confirmation' was misleading if it wasn't really a confirmation of the price.

Just got back from Tesco Exeter and wanted others advice on the following please:
Noticed this champagne of the shelf "Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Non-Vintage Champagne" SEL said £25.98 but there was a yellow special offer sign in front with £3 off down to £22.98. I bought it along with some other bits and was charged £25.98. I went politely to the CS desk (behind which was the huge "Our Promise" sign) and explained I had been over charged. The CS assist. went to the department and brought back the reduced sign and showed me the date of the offer was 15/11/05 so out of date but that as a gesture of goodwill they would honour the reduced price. I pointed out their promise of refund and keep item if overcharged but she said that as it had expired that didn't apply. I didn't complain but just got a refund and left the champagne.
Was I right to not have made a fuss or should I have stuck to my guns and would I have been entitled to R and R?
Also other posts talk of stickered cds and dvds. In my local Tesco none of these are stickered with prices. I wonder why this is?
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks0 -

Hi debjay,
This is another of those decisions that depends who is on CS and which store you are in - in other words there is no consistency regarding policy on this. Apparently there is a clause to the r&r policy which states it doesnt apply to out of date offers where the date is stated. Personally I dont try to get r&r on these as I think it's a bit unclear. Other posters have got r&r in similar circumstances, however many havent.
It's a bit of a dubious policy that will accept some mistakes but not others though IMO.0 -
Of course it should have been honoured. The dates are there simply to advise customers how much longer the special offer is running, should they be interested. If I see a price on a product I shouldn't have to read the small print/barcode/minute detail to make sure that THAT price is indeed the correct price. It's the shop's job to make sure price labels are current and correct - not the customers.
The lamb with rosemary refunds that a lot of us have had have been due to this - the offer expired 20.11 but labels were left out.0
