  • Hi thought i would let you guys know about my refund today. Drove past the garage and they had super unleaded at 82.9p on the big sign you see at all garages. Got to pump 92.9, bought and paid anyway, headed straight up to customer services at main store and asked to be refunded.

Cs had never had a petrol misprice before and went to seek out duty manager, he arrived and asked the problem i explained again and he instructed the cs assistant to phone down to the garage and ask them to check the price on the "gantry" after much repeating of themselves the girl at the garage said price was 92.9.

I promptly replied to the manager that it clearly states 82.9 for super unleaded on their very large and very brightly lit sign outside the garage and if he want ill run him down to have a look, he declined but walked down to check it out. He phoned from the gantry to tell the cs to refund me, however they had to get another manager to sign a petty cash release form (due to garage and store being seperate entities) she then told me i was wrong and that unleaded was 82.9. To which i again had to firmly state that, no she was wrong, unleaded was 88.9, diesel was 92.9 and super unleaded was advertised at 82.9. She relented and said they would have to honour it.

So eventually after about 15-20 mins got refunded £36.08, very pleased just wish i had a larger tank

I tried complaining about mispriced cheese, I'd bought 5 packs and was told I was abusing the policy. Strengthened by the words of wisdom in these pages, I argued stating that they should stick to company policy. I was told in no uncertain terms that he would not and if I wanted to I could complain to Head Office (which I didn't - too much of a headache - which he knows)

In future I will just get one extra and not go overboard. Definately don't want to get banned. Sayng that they shouldn't have a policy if their not going to stick to it. But I guess a little saved often is better than not saving at all if I'm banned.

If they sell you the chesse then they have to uphold the policy. If the policy no longer applies then they need ot take the huge signs down.

Please DO call head office. They are rather nice there and they can't stand it when staff don't uphold the policy. It is less hassle to deal with head office tan it is to deal with customer services TBH. They certainly don't ask stupid questions or try to make you wait for as long as possible.

One thing I've noticed this week that I dont think anybody else has made a point of, along this line,

If you look at the CD section, the entire top 40 albums (in my three local stores) now have the yellow 'offer' SELs that 'expire' every sunday. Have they finally found a way to stop us claiming back on overcharged CD's because they haven't updated the SELs when the price drops on monday?
Not really.....the tiny date on the SEL should help tesco staff but customers shouldn't (have to) read smallprint........or even if it's large, in the absence of any other price it is clearly misleading......and as we've seen tesco do keep special offer prices after the event so how are we to know what's what?

That's their job. .....and the fact they often don't is the problem :)

If there are now Tesco HO people reading this thread, why not contribute and let us know whether people who look for misprices are the goodies or the baddies?
Usually we take only one or two mispriced items, which must surely be better than making a note of the misprices then telling the local trading standards department. Assuming £10 for the misprice, which to be honest is not what Tesco loose as they buy at a much cheaper price than that anyway.
That has got to be cheaper than the £1000 plus fine, plus the awful publicity.

Anyway, anyone displeased with the CS approach etc. just make a note of the misprices, with pictures if possible, and tell trading standards.

Come on Tesco, let the shop managers know in no uncertain terms, that people who look for misprices are doing you a favour!

Ah right cheers i did wonder if they would think it looked a bit suspect as they would know wouldn't they that they were new clubcard vouchers?

We have self scan tills and i have only done it once so far and would only do it on them like you say.I asked as i thought i might go through a self scan with a couple of bits like a loaf and milk and use the temp card and get the voucher and then go back around and do the main shop and then put the 150pts on our proper card instead of the usual do the shop with the temp card and then use it on the next shop.

  • hi there

just wondered if anyone had purchased one of those laptops recently. they have only just got them into my local store and the box says £598 but shelf says £568 there are no self scanners in my store and I would be tempted to give it a go. but have a feeling that if it did scan at the higher price I think that customer services would not honour the r&r policy. just wondered also what number you call for the head office?
