I heard the same thing from a person in store, on the CDs section.

Oh, and out of interest, CDs/DVDs arn't external in the company. They are dealt with instore and controlled by store staff (stock, prices, ordering as they are on CR (continuus replenishment) etc), and provided/labelled out of store by EUK (arm of Woolworths).
Yes, I work for Mr T, but anything I say is not given as an official response or representation from Mr T, and is usually best taken with a pinch of salt, lightly toasted and served with a chardonnay or rose wine. Mmmmmmm.

local is chorley. went today and bought a kids thomas tank engine book, marked up at £4.97, scanned at £6.97 but cashier noticed and ammended it - will be taking it back 2morrow.
will try the other local ones tomorrow though whilst on my travels (middlebrook, wigan and leyland) does anyone know where leylands price check scanner is? :A i am determined to find a misprice!!!

Leyland and Chorley are my locals too (Middlebrook is local to where I work) - there is no scanner at Leyland.

I've found that Chorley has the friendliest CS staff by far.

It doesn't on your receipt, but our BackOffice records the exact barcode of each item on your receipt anyway, and those codes along the bottom - the last one is your 'customer number' which we can match to the records.

Edit: Oh and theres an ongoing project to improve product descriptions on receipts - especially around CDs and infotainment, which is nightmare to CS. You should notice some CDs coming through with artist names now on receipt

It is a particular pain in the backside when you have your receipt with you and wish to return an item and the price has changed (in this instance upwards, but was happy to get the price on the receipt as that what was paid). Thus they can't find the item even though the receipt is in your hand for it, no matching price. Obviously the process you have descibed about the back-office is either very time consuming or isn't functioning as planned. Does it work if the item is purchased at a different store to the return, as was the case with this DVD present I received, that I had a problem with ?

Why not just pop the bar code as per ASDA's very efficient receipts ? Then there is no debate on the issue.

Edit : 'and provided/labelled out of store by EUK (arm of Woolworths).' Presumably that's what he meant then, although he did not descibe it quite like that.
Drat and Double Drat, curse that Mr T excuse for not giving me a refund.

It is, and unfortunately it lives upto its name - its right out the damn back of the store!
    or isn't functioning as planned.

I've asked for ages on employee 'first steps' (ideas cards) to integrate (the checkout) backoffice onto the CSDapp that Customer Service use now. Even for VNC ('remote desktop') access to it from the CSD checkouts.

No, it's only that originating store. Again, another annoyance.

That would be too easy, I guess it would be something to do with receipt 'estate' saving they often do - long gone are the CSM's name, store opening hours and major shrinkage of the Tesco logo to save paper....

  • Sounds as if the processes and systems are fundamentally flawed but thanks for the information. Although given the present was from a different store it still would not have helped, in my scenario, common sense might of but there you go.

ASDA's receipts are pretty concise, why not pop-down there buy a couple of items and see for yourself. Maybe suggest it to your system dept and get a staff reward for such a simple and easy solution, given the bar code is already part of the pricing system anyway, thus is readily available at POS.

Been looking through some paperwork tonight from work, and I think I've spotted some odd repeat overcharges that may or may not have been mentioned here before now.....

Humm, I wonder if I've got a local MSEr! :p

!!!!!!, I agree, Asda receipts are pretty good. Suggesting to our systems dept isnt really an option, the systems departments within tesco are all intermingled and there is no direct contact. Its much like the banking system whereby you have a central contact point and the issues are raised from there dependant on who it needs to be escalated to. As for a staff reward for a good suggestion.....thats not gonna happen!!!!!

I don't think that the system and processes are fundamentally flawed, its some of the staff that are. Time and time again you see the same stores mentioned as problems in internal communication whilst others remain virtually anonymous....shows where the good staff are.

What kinda bugs me on here is the way that certain people on here (you know who you are) seem to be on a personal crusade to slate whatever Tesco does. There is no scheme to defraud customers and mistakes are exactly that, genuine mistakes. There is no excusing bad customer service, there is no excusing (alleged) intimidation from certain security staff (i hasten to add that i have never seen or heard of such things outside of this board) and there is no excusing problems that have been pointed out not being rectified. Indeed there is a system in place to show what the issues of the previous day were! Yes some training could be better, and that is being addressed on a corporate level.

There will always be communication breakdown within any large organisation, and Tesco is no different. In short, Tesco is nowhere near perfect, but i think it is a long way short of being as bad as some on this board would have us believe.
