Big Badger House (aka Noisy Lodger) HE'S GONE!

Thanks guys - really good advice there! I especially like the idea of putting everything into a separate account, I'll get on that...
In terms of doing up the house, I would only expect his input to be in terms of labour - this is still my house and any financial investment will come from me.
I'm doing pretty well on that front anyway (as anyone who saw me on It Pays to Watch will know!) - I need a new kitchen at the moment (mine wasn't fitted when I moved in), and I've so far collected all the wooden doors, cooker, fridge-freezer, 2 double carcasses and 2 single carcasses, all unwanted from other people... so pretty much all I need now is someone to help me fit it all.
He does make me nervous, but then I'm MSE enough for both of us. If I've learned how to be frugal, how to maximise my income and save money for the future, then so can he! And if he has to work two jobs to keep up with his loan, fine - I worked three to pay off mine.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Good Luck BL!
Go with your heart. I'd rather make a costly mistake than spend years wondering "what if?"
Enjoy your Lodger2-free house.

Key thing is to get him a job first - and it looks as though I've just found his dream job, which he also fits the profile of, within walking distance of my house! And if that doesn't work out, he can come and work in my call centre for a while...
I must say you seem to be a "rescuer" as a personality type. While he might be wonderful, his past hasn't shown this to be true. And his sudden appearance on the landscape is a little too easy for him. I think he should at least be given 2 months to find his own job, without you mentioning you could help him out. Actions ... not words. They count more.
Be careful Badger... please be careful. You're too lovely to be stiffed again.0 -
I agree with PasturesNew, be careful Badger. My impression of you from reading this thread, is that your are an extremely capable, sensible and resourceful young woman.
You also appear to have a heart of gold - be careful that you dont get it broken! I really hope it all works out well for you.0 -

BUT.
You need to protect yourself. You really don't know him very well, and while I wish you all the best, you need to hope for the best and plan for the worst, not the other way round.
If you do lend him money to pay off debts (BAD IDEA) then get it in writing, and when he'll pay it back by. And wait a good year or two before he has any financial interest in your house. Please!
Get post dated cheques off him for three figure sums, in a sequence starting in (say) 3 months time for the loan and others for the rent.
These are bills of exchange and it is up to him to prove he does NOT owe you the money if and when they bounce.
Come to think of it, I'm sure he would trust you not to present a cheque dated today for 3 months would he not?
Harry.
I'm doing pretty well on that front anyway (as anyone who saw me on It Pays to Watch will know!)
So that could not have been the time I attended the "Whiteley's roof top studio? would that have been a debt week with a repeat on Sunday?
*thinks* before I am accused of stalking a young woman via VHS I'd better put my name down for this:
