    Sorry to hear about Tufter.

I've had the HMO saga kick off here. One of the neighbours reported me for running an illegal HMO! Having to explain to the Council I have two lodgers and briefly had a boyfriend stay over was not fun.

Didn't realise the neighbours were counting the number of men coming in and out of my house. Maybe I should be glad they didn't think I was running a brothel :rotfl:

 What did the Council ask? Did they come over to your house?

BL I got a two page letter threatening me with a £50,000 fine. Very scary. They also enclosed the forms I needed to fill in, plus the one to put in the window for 21 days (to allow the nosy neighbours to object).

I know you've discussed HMO's before. £520 for a 3 year licence, lots of fire/health and safety regs, submitting a floor plan - just too much hassle.

I had to put in writing that I understand the implications of either moving out or having a third lodger. They also made me name my current lodgers which I didn't feel was necessary. (They both work full time, no Housing Benefit).

I'm single again now anyway, but horrible to think the neighbours are watching who comes and goes!

They are just jealous. If they had a partner to cuddle up to they wouldn't find time to look out the window :)

Not really... it developed an oil leak which was a very minor problem, just a cover put back the wrong way round... but all the oil has leaked over the alternator and broken it :(

That French garage seems like a bunch of knuckle-draggers, from what I read.

I had a similar run-in with my LA, way back when all this HMO nonsense started. It's why (or at least one of the reasons) I ended up in Ireland, having shoved two fingers up at the lot of them :)

  • I'm sorry! I know everyone will be excited, hoping this is news from BL herself. But I couldn't resist posting this.

I've just read this article, after someone linked to it on facebook. It made me smile, and think of this thread.
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2215033/Missing-cat-vanished-SIX-YEARS-returns-home-owner-spots-street.html

Don't lose hope! Hopefully people don't feel too disappointed it's only me now.
    If it rains, it rains.
We'll be in the street, looking thunder in the face,
Singing la la la la la,
    I wont change
  • Hi all, I'll be most grateful if you could point me in the right direction. I have rent a room out in my flat to a man who's now verbally abusive, aggressive etc. bottom line I need him out. He's lived for 2 months but hasn't paid this months rent he claims cos there's a lock on the bedroom door he's not a lodger so not an excluded occupier. He's making me very uncomfortable in my home. How do I resolve this please? Thanks.
