Sounds good, and anyone would be an improvement on the last. As PoppySarah said though do check references and make sure you get deposit and rent in advance this time!
  • He sounds absolutely ideal. Maybe too ideal.. The cynic in me says treble-check every single bit of information and all of his references. Work, everything and all other things you could think of. I'd honestly be thinking about asking him if you could pop round to his home for five minutes and speak to him quickly there about something to check something or other. Then you'll really know whether there's a wife ind kids

    This is a minor niggle.
Does he give 10% of his wages to church too?

The visit him at his current home thing is a type of reference I think all landlords should perhaps do.

excuse needed? Take round a copy of house rules

  • The too-ideal part was the animal-shelter bit. That B_L has mention of the presence of the adored Tuftykins in her listing might have proven too tempting for someone wanting to appear plausible and attractive as a trustworthy lodger.

I know, I know, Bitter&Twisted right? Bitten & Twice Shy as well.

Why need an excuse? Upfront and honest about your motives is always the best policy. Your home is an extremely valuable asset and you'd be right to be wary about who you let into your lovely and comfortable refuge from that bad world out there.

I think this one will do OK - unless there is some reconciliation or something for the kids in a very short time after moving in, I have a feeling that happened before?

Now with two lovely lodgers and BL's impending travels I am worried about continuity of entertainment. BL - could you have a word with the current and potential lodgers and see if they could provide some kind of follow up stuff or gossip from other lodgers they know? Or Maybe even they could stalk departing lodger and report back on his mishaps at his next place?

Once the days are longer and I can get out and about more I will be Ok but in the meantime I may have to resort to the telly if none of you can help.

I still wouldn't take a new break up. Too unreliable, too much chance of reconciliation. You're looking for long lets if you are travelling. He's probably not dangerous, but he isn't a business decision, he's a heart decision.

Not that you ever listened to your head....

I'm gonna take him (subject to reference checks). Even if he only stays a month at least I'll be left with a nicely decorated room
