What time are you leaving home and how is your prospective new lodger going to get in when there's dozens of bin-bags littering the place?
The unwanted stuff has all been piled up in the single spare room. So access to that bed is blocked but I don't need to get to it until Christmas II.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Looking forward to your update before you leave about your visitor this arvo. I dearly hope that the single-room is as far away from the front-door as possible. Do you think that BigGuns would dare to bring a witness to watch him check that you've not stolen or damaged his precious photos or jewellery. The jewellery that he could sell to pay you part of what he owes?
I hope you've printed out his statement, so he can see how much is rightfully owed to you. I'd put a ton on there as a penalty for all the @rse-ache.0 -

If he doesn't collect definitely take his belongings to the parents. Maybe add a few extras though. Things perhaps he would rather his parents didn't find. Maybe a few adapted photos or some slightly unnerving underwear!0

jc808 you are a wag! You claiming to wanting to bow out should have been a huge clue to the alert. Thanks very much, I enjoyed our exchange last night. Molto lollingtons.0

Well, this made me laugh but......Guys
Can I PLEASE suggest a lodger this time? To be perfectly frank its not FAIR that I dont get a say in the decision-making here. I do remind you I LIVE HERE after all!! I mean its bad enough youve changed my cat food - The fact Co-op had 20% off on their cruddy own brand is no excuse really, MSE my litter-touching @rse.
The only say I get is the occasional protest whoopsie placed in carelessly discarded berets (To be fair I think I spoke for us all when I veto'ed FrankSpencerLodger that way)
Anyway down to business, I know this GREAT little tabby, clean, reliable, house trained AND had all her shots (Quite literally) So let me know what you guys think
PS Badger, I saw the IAMS on that shopping list of yours. Dont even think about it. Am I an IAMS cat? Am I FLCK!!

OMFG! I am literally spluttering all over the place at this. Thank you guys, has been a great day for giggles today (after watching a youtube vid of a dog in boots and OH telling me that to look good on our wedding day all I need to do is wear a mask!) but please don't do it again because I'm pretty sure if I laugh much more my body will expel a lung!Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)0 -
GL BL. You've the patience of a saint. If I was single and didn't have a dog I'd be over there with JoannaLodger making sure the place stayed up to scratch. Despite the "wear a mask" statement I'm OK where I am. Tufter would have been fine with me too, I love little old cranky cats, they're the best kind!
Happy New Year to you and Tufter (the REAL Tufter) and lovelyneighbour and BurlyFriend. This thread is epic (yikes, how chavvy is that word, but don't know how else to explain it lol) and whilst I wish you nothing but the best, I cannot help but feel that we're all hoping for a little more drama because we can't deny that this is soooo entertaining. This is probably one of the longest, if not THE longest continuous thread on MSE, some achievement lol.
Do enjoy 2012. Sounds like you're gonna have a busy time. Just remember that old saying "You don't regret the things you do, only the things you don't!" or something along those lines :-)Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Well!
PotentialLodger1 has just left and here's the dish:
- He explained his relationship breakdown with his wife and it's all very amicable - they finally decided to call it quits over Christmas and he just needs to escape to his own space ASAP. In fact he'd love to move in tomorrow.
- His children are his absolute world - he talked about how upset they were about the split and his eyes watered upThis combined with the animal shelter work shows he's rather a sensitive soul. His arrangement with the children is that he goes to their house to stay every other weekend (with the wife staying elsewhere). But they may on occasion stay over here, bundled together in his room.
- He's a gamer who tends to keep to himself at home. He's quite excited about hooking up his Wii to the projector but he's also very happy to play in his bedroom with his headphones on. He's not interested in watching sports or tacky TV.
- He talked about his wonderful neighbours at home and how he intends to respect and relate to my neighbours.
He actually talked about himself a lot under interview and was very, very open about everything. He also presented a letter of personal reference with contact information to follow up on, and said that he had his deposit and first month's rent ready to go.
He even said that he'd be keen to do some decorating work if I buy him the supplies - and that incudes fitting a new carpet in his bedroom and repainting the walls :j
JoannaLodger likes him and Tufter took an instant shine to him. But what do you think?Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Go for it. What's the worst that can happen?
You're already up on the previous lodger's dodgeriness if you get a deposit and rent in advance.
I would check a reference though. Just to be sure.0
