Oh, the guilt trips are starting by SMS...

Well done Badger - I think you will need to be very firm, if you are going tto get him out by the 3rd.

    They continue...
Problems like what? I don't see what the issue is, I can move out end of january? Does it make any difference x
It does because you won't live here any more - the locks are being changed on the 3rd x
Well you can't lock my possessions in its against the law x

I've composed the following message but I haven't sent it... I'm worried that it'll only heighten feelings, particularly on Christmas Eve and when he may well have been drinking:

"BigGuns I don't want to make an issue about this - you can get advice from CAB or Shelter. If you are evicted and have left things behind, you can collect them at a mutually convenient time. If you are evicted and refuse to leave the property, the Police can come to assist. There's absolutely no need for us to get to that stage."

    Help?!

You got to be strong BL. He is a chancer and taking the P, if you let him stay until the end of Jan you will never get shot of him. He is clearly using that you have been a soft touch in the past to his advantage. I feel for JoannaLodger having to live with him but he is taking liberties.

The only thing in your text that I would change is to perhaps add something in about you giving him far more notice than you need to.

Big guns lodger will become tosserlodger if he keeps this up grrrr

Why not suggest he moves in with the GF until his new place becomes available. About time her hospitality was abused.

Would suggest the lock change date becomes 4th Jan before it becomes a contentious issue.

BL I would not send that message..

When will you be back at home?

If I were in your position I would send something like:

Hey, don't get steamed up - it's the Season of Good Will so I'm sure we can sort out something when I get back. Meanwhile, hope you and gf have a good day tomorrow. See you on [date].

Give him hope and pray he behaves himself until you get home. Then stand your ground (and maybe invite a couple of burly mates over to spend the day with you on the 3rd?). It's a bit sneaky but arguing by text message could rebound badly on you - who knows what he'll do? Especially if he's drunk and feeling aggrieved..

ETA: Actually I've changed my mind - a dignified silence is preferable to any placatory message at this stage I think.

Good Luck BL, oh yes, and Merry Christmas! :)

Personally I wouldn't send either message.

BL, you've said your piece, he knows the score, just leave it now.

I wouldn't send Robin's message either, I think it will backfire and will inflame BGL big style when he finds out he's going after all. Also, if he thinks there might be some leeway for 'sorting something out', he might make less of an effort to find somewhere else.

  • I agree with aliasjo, anything text you send now could heighten the situation. He's obviously trying it on, but you've left no doubt that he HAS to go on Jan 3rd and the locks will be changed the to the house. His fault if he has nowhere to go to!
Have a good Christmas day tomorrow, don't worry about it and bring some friends with you back to the house for 'drinks' when you go back - sounds like you may need the backup!

    Penny: Nothing!
Leonard: How can you walk around with no money?
Penny: I'm cute, I get by.
