Another thought - if a lodger was sneakily sub-letting the house, would they really be stupid enough to give their new housemates my personal phone number and encourage them to call me?

"Landlady" is another interesting point... BigGuns wasn't a lady last time I checked and Joanna is the reliable one who sends me weekly updates when I'm away...

  • Dunno. Maybe your number is stuck up somewhere in the kitchen and this guest assumed it would be OK to call? I'd be asking JoannaLodger directly whether anyone has invited someone to stay without checking with you first.

I've just had a stroke of genius and looked at both their 'friends' lists on Facebook. They've got a fair few hundred friends each, but not a single [foreign girl's name] between them...

I just did a Google search on the address she gave me and it does come up as a real place in Reading. According to 192 it's a flat with three adults living in it.

(Can you tell I'm really busy at work?)

But if the girl has her security set to friends only you wouldn't see her - although it does seem that most people tend to use 'friends of friends' for their security settings.

Def would be odd for her to give that address if it's nowhere near yours - unless its somewhere shes lived in the past (I know I've given my old student address for things in the past when I've been wary about giving my current one).

Hopefully it really is just a massive coincidence that the number she was meant to have belongs to someone with the same nickname as you (albeit unlikely).
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Badger, IMO it is a fluke. No different than when people phone and get a wrong number but ask for you. Badger do you have a common or unusual first name?

It's usually associated with 90+ year olds rather than 20+ year olds but no, it's not uncommon. It could well be a fluke. Fingers crossed!

Sounds like one of these freaky co-incidences but I will take it all back if in 4 pages time it turns out one of your lodgers has been subletting :o

Nah, there's nothing going on here! All normal. And neither of the lodgers have heard of this chick.
